I was driving home tonight in my 98 Vette that I have had since Tuesday and something wierd started happening. I noticed what seemed to be like a power surge in the car and I heard a popping sound over the speakers, and my lights dimmed. Suddenly, "service ABS", and "service Active Handling" appeared on the DIC. Any ideas on what is causing this? The car is low mileage and has probably been sitting up for a while before I got it. Thanks!

The same thing happened to me last fall. It was a loose battery cable.
my thoughts. loose battery connection. corroded connections, bad battery or alternator, or worse. a previously leaky battery that leaked onto the wiring underneath and computer stufff

There is a different battery in it other than stock. It is an Everlast battery. I looked at it just now and I noticed some kind of fluid on the top of the battery. Im not mechanically inclinded at all, and it may just be water. I also put the key in the ignition and turned it to on, but didn't crank the car. There were no service ABS or service Active Handling messages.

remove the battery and look down at the tray and see if there is any evidence of leaking onto the stuff below. if it has in the past, its usually a total pain to get it all traced and figured out. good luck.

it's probably not water, batteries are sealed. unless you washed the car or it rained, but it still should not be wet under there. drop some baking soda on it and see what happens, that will tell you if it's water or not.

Power problem. Get it checked out. And beyond that!! Welcome to the forum. Hope the weekend has better things in store for you. And post some pics when you can.

Last time I washed the car was yesterday.
As far as pics of the car goes, there's a thread I posted the day I got the car around here somewhere, but I think the pics are down because I exceeded my bandwidth.
