I notice that the balancing weights on my 2002 Z06 wheels are on the outside rim as they are on every car. Is there any reason that the balancing weights can't be placed on the inside of the rim toward the engine? I don't like the way the weights look on the wheels. The weights also tend to scratch the wheels.
I was told by a guy who runs a custom wheel repair shop, that they will get a truer balance and use less weight if placed on the outer-most location of the wheel.
However, I did not like the look and had them placed on the inside where they do not show....
When I got rid of the GY's and went with the Michelins I had them put the weights inboard. Definitely looks better, but it did leave the visible scratches on the rim.
My very first "mod", j/k, the day after I brought the vert home was to take it to the tire shop and have the outside weights removed and the tires computer balanced with the adhesive weights placed on the inside of the rim. The other style ruins your rims. They look terrible.
Just had a set of new Toyo T1S put on and had the weights placeed on the inside of the rims. I have always done this with no problems. I have noticed no balance problems normal or hight speed over the years with the weights on the inside.
When I got rid of the GY's and went with the Michelins I had them put the weights inboard. Definitely looks better, but it did leave the visible scratches on the rim.
Me too, but it is so nice to clean the wheels without those damn weights in the way.
Most of the marks from the former rim weights came off, and, if I had rim weights put on after the new tires, they would have been in different places, anyway. Meaning, I would have been marking the rims for some future tire change.
The only good purpose I could ever see on outside weight (any car) was that you could eyeball them to make sure they were still there. I went with the adhesives when I went with the Michelins.
