This will be an easy question for someone to answer but I cannot find it in the owner's manual. On my 2002 Z06, is reverse locked out if you are moving forward?
I believe there is a reverse lockout solenoid. I have read on this forum of instances where the solenoid has failed and drivers hit Reverse gear at speed. Not good for the tranny. Hope it never happens to me.
Some members have a hard time getting it into reverse when standing still. The reverse lock out works almost to well. But, man wouldn't like to find reverse at 40mph.
There is a solenoid lockout which activates at 3mph, however, my 03 Coupe had a faulty solenoid and attempted shifts to 5th resulted in a very wide, sloppy feeling gate, and the grinding of going into reverse at 75ish. Scares the bezzzjjjjjjj out of you. The first dealer I went to couldn't find anything wrong? Duh! But, I learned about the solenoid failure problem on this forum, and went to another dealer with the understanding that these solenoid failures show up on the GM Tech. They were aware of the problem and it's a simple fix. No tranny removal as the solenoid is accessible. If you have a bad solenoid you will know it because the gate in 5th will be wide and uncertain. With the repair I feel a tight gate with a positive stop if I go too far to the right. Prior to the repair you had to fish for 5th and even when it felt right it would turn out to be a screaming grind as reverse was being engaged. You would know if you have a reverse lockout solenoid failure, in my humble opinion.
