This has happened to me twice now - the first time my car wouldn't start again - I have a 96 Blazer (my daily driver) - I will be driving along and for no reason at all - I loose all power - brakes, steering, etc. The truck just shuts itself off. Anyone have any idea what this could be?

Melodie - if you have a mechanic you trust other than the dealer, that's were I'd go. On a 96 Blazer, why deal with the lines and the wait to get service when you might be able to get this taken care of easily.
If you're even a little handy with hand tools, go down to a local Autozone, ask them to test the battery (you'll have to take it out!) and do a load test. Chances are your battery is bad - I live in Phoenix, and batteries don't last in this heat more than about two years.
So many of these mysterious behaviors are electrical related and can usually be traced back to a battery going south!
A regular mechanic please, do not let those dealer apes near your car unless you want your seats and carpets greased, your paint smeared with what ever is around the shop and the battery hooked up to the water pump.
Just got back from AutoZone. Was the Battery! GOOD JOB GUYS! She checked my alternator but she said that I should have my alternator checked? She said that my alternator checked out ok (they checked that after they put in the new battery). The guy said that it was more than likely just the battery.
