Default How did you install your vert hoops?

I started to highjack someone else's thread yesterday on this subject. Now I am doing it the right way. I have a set of roadster bars/vert hoops coming from WCC and have read that people have drilled into their tanks when installing them. many have said to JB weld them in, but I'm not too keen on that either. Boarddirector said he uses self tapping bolts. If so, could he please chime in as to what size? Also, mine is an '04 and I guess that means that I have the C6 fuel system. Does that mean that I have different tanks that might be closer or further away? I really don't want to hurt the tanks.-My wife would KILL ME!

I put them in my Z06 because I liked the way they looked. I used JB Weld....a lot of it. They've been on about a year and a half....no problems....solid.

I would imagine you could get by with the self tapping screws and I think I would be more confident with that....but I didn't know how much room I had and just couldn't chance poking the gas tank.

Good luck on whichever way you go.

I simply used JB weld, (2 packs) and they are rock solid. Don't think they would help in a roll, but anything short of a cage wouldn't anyway.

I put a how to on my site if you want to see what I did specifically. Click below!

Enjoy the new look! I love mine!

I used self tapping screws with no problem. The bar plate had pre-drilled holes and that's what I used as my pattern.

Can anyone post pictures of their verts with hoops. I have been thinking of this but have yet to see one.

The hoops look great!

It seems like a set of hoops installed using a cold weld compound would probably club you in the head, in a rollover situation...

Whether you use JB Weld or self tapping screws, the roll hoops are for looks and not meant as a roll bar. Neither method will stand up to a roll over. The area they are supported on would most likely collapse and the hoops would probably break loose no matter what you did. Are they a safety issue? Maybe, but in a plastic car roll over their are lots of reasons for concern.
