I bought the cags defeat and went to an audio/electronics store to have them install it (I don't have 4 jackstands). The guy told me he could do it, but came back out a few minutes later saying that there is a shroud around the transmission preventing him from doing it. I've researched CAGS installation to death and I don't see any shroud around the tranny. Is this guy full of it and should I just take it to someone with a hydraulic lift and a mechanic?

No shroud... just the wire harness that plugs into the socket. remove it and replace with resistor.. 2 minutes.. fool proof... maybe not.

Go to Walmart and drop $20 on some Rhino Ramps. Back the car up on the ramp and do the CAGs thing yourself. Its about 10-15 minutes or less. This is a very easy one.
Also, stay clear of any repair shop that is not familiar with the Corvette. There is no shroud, and you don't want somebody poking around your C5 that is clueless. Sounds like he was trying to go inside the tunnel area to locate the relay.
The instructions that came with your CAGs should be fairly easy, or you can browse the Tech Tips section, or just post back and ask an install question.
On my 2004 the harness was even labled with white paper tag with bold black letters that read "CAGS". Just like GM new I'd be looking for it. It's rather foolproof. Go to Wal-Mart, by the Rhino Ramps, you will need them for oil changes anyway, which are also very easy.
The harness is located at the driver's side rear of the car,,,the transmission is in the rear in this car. Look for the harness on the driver's side of the transmission. It will be near the top on the drivers side of the transmission. Unplug it and you will see that you can only plug in the Defeat one way. Good luck.

Ahem, I dare say the "shroud" he saw was probably the shield underneath the torque tube. Yes - he was probably looking for the trans up at the engine...

Thanks for the info! I took it to a mechanic out in the sticks who had a hydraulic lift. He let me under there and I was done in 2-3 minutes. Paid the dude $10 and it worked fine. I'll have to avoid the previous shop I took it to. If I could find the plug, I don't want someone who can't even find the tranny laying a finger on my car.
