Rattles?
I have an '04 Coupe with the Z51 suspension. At 1100 miles I've developed several rattles. Is this the price for having a stiffer suspension?
For those of you who have developed rattles, could you share with me what they were and how your experience at the dealership went, if you filed a warranty claim?
I have a rattle from what may be the roof panel and one from inside the passenger door, I think. I'm sort of disappointed that my brand new C5 now rattles more than my C4 with 50,000 miles on it did.
I have a 98 with Z51 but no rattles from it. I've had cats go bad and rattle though. Also, a few years ago I was getting a rattle from the passenger side door... it turned out to be the BOSE emblem on the speaker grille! A piece of chewing gum could have fixed it but the dealer changed out the entire speaker and grille under warranty because he wanted to get rid of one from stock. Isn't it amazing what dealers can do when it's in their best interest?
My '04 coupe was relatively rattle-free until my last visit to a dealer for service. Now I have one that seems to come from under the dash on the passenger side...comes on at around 1500 rpm. Drives me nuts.

I have the passenger door rattle in my 01 Vert. It is not the speaker grille, nor the reflector lens in the door. I have found that if I pull the inside passenger door handle, the rattle will stop (for a while). I need to pull off the inside door skin to look around back there to see if it is something I can secure/fix.
I did have a latch rattle but it was due to my tires needing to be balanced. They were severly off which I know I was just to lazy to get it fix. My '99 is quiet as can be!

My '00 so far is rattle free. I had a '95 though that every time I went over a large bump, it had a loud rattle in the dash area. Dealer never did fix that. Rattles can be very hard to find and fix. Good luck getting your two taken care of.
My 04 CE coupe with a base suspension was plagued with rattles and squeaks in the dash and passenger seat. I had a different sound for each different road condition/speed...
My 04 MSG Coupe with Z51 is absolutely noise free after 1200 miles.
It apparently has nothing to do with the suspension but in how the factory tightened everything up. I never did find any of the noises on the CE, I traded it in for that, and a number of other, reasons.
On my 98 it seems this is a monthly ritual.
As soon as I fix one, another pops up somewhere else.
I have fixed vert top sqeak, PS visor bracket mount, toneau latch harness. Still have to fix a on again / off again DS door noise.

Thanks for the replies, guys.
I found my rattles. I took the solid top out and put the plexiglass top in for a ride up the coast, and life is good. Now to get it to the dealer to see if they can do something with it. I like the solid top better.
Speaking of rattles, during my drive up the coast a friend of mine told me I can save a ton of time by using Ca. S16 from Carmel to the 101 Freeway. The bastage never told me it was going to be 30 miles of some of the roughest pavement I have ever been on. YIKES!

Possible I guess but I have my doubts that the Z51 would be that much more prone to causing rattles than any of the other suspensions. My neighbor and I both have the Z51 and our cars are rattle free. I'd suggest going to see your dealer. Good luck with the fix!
The only rattle in my '04 did indeed seem to come from the passenger door at first, but ended up being in the glove box door. Really neat adjustment mechanism in there, too! You can dial it right in; almost makes one think that it was designed to rattle!
Hey BlackOps, I had a rattle in my top and found it to be the part that aligns the top to the car. It was funny as it didn't look any different from the drivers side but I put a small piece of rubber on it(a cover from an RCA cable) and latched it down. I noticed the latch was tighter and the rattle has disapeared!
My top rattles and from what I hear, there is a pretty simple fix. I read somewhere that if you put the soft side of velcro on the latch plate the squeak will disappear.
