There are lots of threads on this in the archives but I'll get you started on one I posted to recently. I posted pics of how I installed my screens and a few others weighed in on their installs. You can drill or cut openings in your black foglight shrouds to give the air inlets to the engine bay.

Hey, I have a couple of questions on this Z06screen thing.
1. Whats behind the plastic blank if I take it out?
2. Are there air ducts behind there that go to the intake on a Z06?
3. If I put in a Z06 (got em ordered) grill Is it better to drill holes in the plastic blank or remove it all together or leave it in?
4. Any benefits to doing this?
Thanks alot,
Jeff

Hey, I have a couple of questions on this Z06screen thing.

1. Whats behind the plastic blank if I take it out?

It opens up onto the radiator shroud and the intake area that you see when you open the hood and look down in front of the intake box. Cutting or removing it allows cool air into the intake area.

2. Are there air ducts behind there that go to the intake on a Z06?

Nope. On mine, the cool air is feed directly into my VaraRam intake ducts though.

3. If I put in a Z06 (got em ordered) grill Is it better to drill holes in the plastic blank or remove it all together or leave it in?

Depends on your preference and how much work you want to put into it. cutting a large rectangular opening or drilling a series of large holes with a hole saw will accomplish pretty much the same job as going through the trouble of pulling them completly out, which is a lot more work.
4. Any benefits to doing this?

The cool air will definitely benefit the engine. A cooler intake charge means more power.

Thanks alot,
Jeff

Installation was a snap for me. I used double-sided body molding tape and just drive real fast to keep them in place.

Patches, thanks for the info. Some more questions.
1. I read somewhere on here that lots of dirt and stuff gets in when you remove the plastic blank. T or F
2. I read that you need to put some kind of filtering foam or something behind the Z06 screens to keep the engine and/or factory air filter clean. T or F

BEEP BEEP BEEP.....This is not a test. Had this actually been a test, you would have been notified by the emergency testing agency. lol

You do get a bit more dust/dirt in the engine bay. Obviously a daily driver will accumulate dirt quickly in comparison to a weekender like mine. I didn't notice a big increase in dirt but it was noticeable. I suppose you could use a thin filter medium behind the openings but, of course, that would somewhat obsure the opening and partially defeat the purpose. Whatever air filter you're using is sufficient to protect the intake without additional filtering though. Last time I pulled my VaraRam filter out it was surprisingly clean. I think the air at the inlet-opening level is far cleaner than the asphalt level air picked up by bottom breathers simply because the air it scoops is so much further above the ground.

So I guess my answers to your questions would be:

1) T
2) F

Did I pass?

Same here.......I used velcro, no problems since install. No need IMHO to drill. Good luck. You'll love the look.

I bolted mine in since I lost one somewhere in Michigan when I kill some road kill in the middle of night in a turn when it was rain. I originally had them stuck in with velcro.
