Default Vararam - Water

I hoping someone in the C5 community can answer some questions about the Varam V1B Ram Air system.

They say they are developing one for the C4's and near production. But when I was at their site reading up on the system there was an article by Vette Magazine which although they extolled the virtues of Vararam, they strongly warned against use of this system in heavy rain or flooding situations because of sucking water into the intake mainfold and bending a rod (hydrolock).

1) Has anyone ever experience a problem with rain being suck up as well as air.

2) Has anyone asked Vararam how the system protects against rain.

Sorry but it has been really beat to death. Just do a search and you will find countless Hydrolock and Vararam threads.

I have heard of NOBODY using the Vararam having any issue with water. This includes myself. It's a very good design and well worth the money.

SEARCH!!!!!!!

I had mine on for a year. Been caught in one heavy rain storm, drove an hour home in sideways rain with water standing everywhere and drove about 100 miles in a steady rain another time.

Never a drop of water to the filter and, yes, I did check it each time!

As Bob can attest to here in South Florida it rains really hard....harder than probably anywhere else in the country and I have driven in it with my Vararam and never had a problem..The rain will not bother it but just use common sense with puddles.

100% Regular or even heavy rain shouldn't give you a problem. It's when you start running through that standing water. I speak from experience, had my 97 hydrolock after I got swamped by some HUGE 4x4 that threw water right over my hood. Luckily all covered by insurance, but I would't want the 8k bill
