Default Now That C6 Pricing is Out . . .

around $45K (when you consider destination $$$) for a coupe and
$52K for a vert

would you buy one or prefer to get a remaining C5 and mod it or save more money and get a slighty pre-owned C5 (I'm sure many C6 buyers will be trading in their C5) and mod that one.

I've never known price to stand in the way of someone who wants any Corvette.

i'd look at it this way -- you're going to mod either car anyway -- just compare the costs to get the vehicle. unless you are 100% sure, don't presume you're NOT going to mod a car. been there, done that.

I find the published C5 base pricing to be a bit misleading. Start adding options that are really useful like Z51 and the package that contains the HUD and you're approaching $50K for a coupe.

To answer your question though, it's all personal choice. If I were going to purchase a Vette today, I'd pick up one of the remaining C5's at the killer prices that are being offered and drive it until C6 deals come back, with discounts and hopefully rebates.

Thats a very good point - I never thought of that. I have seen soem pretty awsoem prices on pre-owned C5's though. I saw a 2001 Yellow vert/Black top at a dealership for $34,000. Its had 16,800 miles on it. You could probably get them to come down a bit on price. Then consider you can have have LPE throw an I/C Magna charger on it you have a helluva car and still save like $8,000!!!

It all depends on your personal circumstances. If I had lots of money I'd wait for the C6 Z06 or maybe they'll call it a Z07 since it's going to be a 7 litre engine. But it will be a lot more expensive than either the coupe or the vert. My .02

The C6 has no paddle shift auto -- so I'm waiting on the C7! And that's just fine for me 'cause I like the looks of the C5 better anyway. So I will just continue to mod my C5.

http://www.corvettesbyrickdaniel.com/05pricing.html

You'll be nearing or upwards of 50K plus tax in my state for a coupe with the 1SB and Z51 and a good color.. $51,600 I came to for a Mag red Coupe and the transparent roof. Throw in the extended warranty for another $700.00-$1000.00.

And another 8K above base Coupe price for the vert.

With little if any discounts available.

7% sales tax and you're nearing or over 55K out the door, for the Mag Red Coupe with Z51 and 1SB, glass top, with a full 60 months warranty coverage. And without the advantage of 0% financing and little if any discount..

The 1SB gives you the HUD, thesports seats, which happen to be heated, memory package, the CD changer, the garage door opener in the visor, and the power passenger seat. Navigation is extra.

We won't even price out a similar equipped vert. But it will approach 60K retail.
$56,735 with no extended warranty, no fancy paint, together approx another $1500.00, bringing it to over 58K and no tax which will send it into the 60K range.

To say that the C6 price list is misleading is an understatement. You might get a stripped one, for that sub 50K price if you can find one. But who wants a stripped car? Especially a stripped Vette.

They might take a grand or less off, but essentially what that would amount to is a free extended warranty, or free destination charges. Dealers play games like this all the time. Thats if they take a grand off.

People are falling all over themselves to pay good money for the privilage of beta testing the C6.

The C5 is the best deal going right now.

Let me see you get a C6 for those prices

MSRP for a good deal and you do as stated above need to add in the options not a stipped model (hard to find those). I doubt that you are going to find a C6 for under $50K for quite awhile . . .

I bought an 04 in January after seeing what the C6 was going to be. I am not in it for the HP I am in it for the looks and the C5 has it all over the C6 in my tastes.

I agree. I think I am going to pick up a 04 Z for the 0%. I like the C6, but I think I will wait a few years. Let the bugs get out, and maybe they will change the steering wheel in the C6 to something I like better.

I bought a leftover '03 this spring, and will at least be waiting for the second model year of the C6 to let them iron out the problems not to mention allow the pricing for both C5 and C6 to level out. Right now values on C5s are too low and no deals are gonna be given on C6 for a while.

Besides, not sure I like the C6 looks as well as the C5, we'll see.
