Default got some questions....

whats a fair price on a '00 black 6spd. coupe vette with 58k mi. ?
I might look into getting it tommorow, but I wanted to add the z06 side scoops, and rims also. how much would they cost? also, the salesman told me with a $1000 the would add an intake, computer chip, and exhaust so it would have the same power as a z06. Is that a good deal, or could I save money and buy my own goodies?

You can find Blue Book prices at www.kbb.com

What intake, "chip", and exhaust would they add? $1000 is a good price for all that, but it sounds fishy. For instance, what do they mean by "chip"? Do they mean reprogramming the ECU? If so, with what? A Hypertech programmer? A Predator?

And what type of intake and exhaust? I purchased a Z06 rear-section exhaust on eBay fo $400 in excellent shape (a little dirty, but in perfect shape). It was another $100 to get it installed at the dealer.

Give us more details on what they are offering and we'll be better able to let you know if it is fair or not.

But on a personal note, if it were me I'd prefer to pick my own mods. But that's just me.

Not even close! As for the price, best bet is kbb.com or edmunds.com as everyone here has their own idea but they are the authorities. Also check you local paper or autotrader.com for you zip.

If the salesman says they can install a "chip"...run, dont walk away from him. He has no idea what he is talking about. As previously stated you can reprogram the computer but there is no chip like in the old days.

If you provide some more details such as condition and how the car is equipped, someone here should be able to provide you with some fairly good info. You might also check the C5 Corvettes For Sale section of the Forum too to get an idea of asking price for this model year coupe.

These come in several versions - "stick-on" or the ones that are truly functional where the rocker panels must be cut to install. Price depends on which ones you want. Many of the Forum vendors here sell one or both types. Go to the left of your screen, scroll down to Accessories, and click on some of the Forum vendors here to see what they may have.

First the LS1 or LS6 engines cannot be chipped like the engines in the C4s of past could, so I would be very careful of what this salesman is telling you. There are aftermarket tuners and others though who can reprogram the C5's computer for some HP gains depending on the car and mods. Whether the $1000 is a good price or not would depend on the brand/type of intake and exhaust. I would suggest that you ask the salesman for this info then, shop around and do some price comparison for installation of comparable equipment to help you make an informed decision. However, coming from a salesman, my guess is that this is overpriced for what you will be getting.

Good luck finding a car that is right for you.

Rims will cost you anywhere from around $1100 to 1300, depending on the vendor and could be less if a major sale is going on. Check with House of Wheels on their prices. Z06 ducts cost about $200 anymore new and you can probably get them put on for about $75.

Doubt you will get to Z06 power with a chip, intake and exhaust. Its going to take more than that. A fair price for the car might be in the mid-20's.

Yeah, that's a good one. I'm surprised he didn't offer the High Performance Hood Seal and Throttle Body By-Pass tube, too, then tell you that you could outrun a Z.

Stalker, don't let these guys razz ya too much. It's not personal. They aren't laughing at you, they're laughing at the idiot that is trying to scam you.

I think we've all just heard a lot about "Z06 retrofits" that simply aren't true.

Z06's have different heads, cam, internal specs, intake, exhaust...the list goes on. What everyone here is trying to say is that whoever this dealer is that is giving you this line of BS is someone you shouldn't trust. Deal or no deal you should probably walk away from the whole thing. Another deal will come along.

Good luck,
