Default Long Term Storage

I have orders to Naples Italy for approx 3 years. Planning on storing my 2000 coupe in a family garage. Looking for some tips on long term storage: disconnect/remove battery?; put up jack stands and remove tires?; gas stabilizer?; tank full or empty?; dehumidifiers?; etc. I'm sure there is a lot more that I haven't even thought of yet. Suggestions? Lessons learned?

Look under "other" above. Click on tech tips / C5 / storage, for some starting ideas.

Whether you remove the battery or not I would put a
VDC Electronics Battery Minder or a Deltran Battery
Tender plus on it.

If it is a non AGM battery I would remove it because of the
possibility of leaking acid.

Miley,
It is obviously your call, but storing the car for three years seems excessive to me to. I'd consider:
- shipping it to Italy and selling it there when you come back
- "storing" it with a trusted family member with a power of attorney who could drive it occasionally to keep everything working
- selling it and getting another one in three years

When I was stationed in Hawaii, the Navy shipped one car and I paid Matson shipping lines $800 to ship my 94 RX-7 out there. It was well worth the $800 to me.

If you do decide to store it, AMSOIL makes a good fuel stabilizer. Available via the link to the left or by calling 1-800-956-5695. In either case, I would appreciate you using customer number 1206638 so the sale benefits me (and hence this site). Thanks.

AMSOIL Gasoline Stabilizer keeps fuel from deteriorating during storage. Reduces the oxidation process and prevents varnish and gum build-up in gasoline. These contaminates can clog injectors, stick floats and cause poor engine startup. Allows easier start-ups.

Treat rate is one ounce with every 2.5 gallons of fuel. One bottle treats 40 gallons.

Product Code: AST
