For the last month or two I have been having a problem , after a half hour or so on the road I get a very stong smell both inside and outside of the Z. I took it to the dealer and they said a plastic bag melted to the exhaust. That was a month ago and the smell is still there. It almost smells like burnt popcorn from the microwave. I don't abuse the car I do however like to get to the posted speed limit as fast as possible. My first guess was a clutch , any help would be appreciated.

If I had a brand new corvette that had a burning smell to it, I would be thinking electrical short. I hope you get the car checked out by someone who knows what they are doing.
I agree with RBartick. First, it should be pretty easy for you to get under the car and see whether there are any remnants of the plastic bag left. But itherwise, for the first six months I owned my Z I smelled something very similar to what you are describing, primarily coming from the exhaust area. It probably is one of the exhaust components, but it also wouldn't hurt to have a reputable specialist in your area check it out. Good luck.
If you did get a plastic bag on the exhaust it is a &^%^&* to get the damn thing off - I had that happen to me years ago - absolutely miserable, even after getting a chisel and banging chunks of the plastic off the exhaust.
Definately check to confirm the bag though - otherwise you have good info in the other posts
