Windshield!!!!!!!!
Old one took one for the team on the return trip from CI-V
New one shows up tomorrow morning. (I've been out of town )
I've heard horror stories about breaking the factory seal. Any thoughts? I'll be present for the install and would like to be able to "coach" the installers if at all possible.
BTW, w/out the HUD, it would only be $650. With the HUD it's $1,718.26
Yeah, I think you're right about the factory seal. My Z had an issue with the upper portion of seal tearing and the whole w/s had to come out. I was also told that it is common to break the old glass on a Z when removing, because of thinner glass. Dealer got new one in OK, but it leaked badly. After several tries they brought in a glass man and he told them the whole thing was botched. He redid the entire thing with new seals and it has been fine. I guess these just take a specialist. My dealer is really good, but the w/s even kicked their ****.
Mike I'm no glass expert but one of the local corvette racers runs and owns Coastal Glass. They specialize in aftermarket auto glass and he's built the company from the ground up. Now he's got an '04 CE Z06, his wife has an '04 darg gray vert, and his son who works for him as a sweet WRX making 500 ponies... that that it's relavent. He knows his stuff.... I'm guess that there's nothing special about our cars and if the glass installer knows what they're doing you shouldn't have any problems.

The guy I bought my 2000 Coupe from had the guys with the little red trucks do my HUD windshield and the top corners on the seal ripped open. They then came out to my place and proceeded to repace the seal and re install the trim pieces. They did this three times because it kept ripping the top corners of the rubber seal open. Then they sent out a real tech and he installed the trim pieces over the seal instead of under the seal. He did admit he stopped at the Chevy dealer on his way out to look at a new C5 install just to be sure. I have to hand it to them they got it right and stood by there work. It cost them plenty as those seals are not cheap not to mention all the time. Good luck with this and remember the metal moldings go over the top of the seal at the top corners, not under.

Like anything else - an incompetent boob can really fudge things up - and an experienced competent technician can do it right the first time - hey it's not rocket science!
HUD windshield NEW on eBay is $379...someone is making a tidy profit.
ya right
see what you would pay (zero) with no deductible on your comprehensive. double check to make sure you had the $500 on comprehensive and not collision . . . I have seen mistakes made there
