Default Am I the only one...

I took the vette to work today seeing as how it was a gorgeous day. On the way home i passed my exit because i refused to get directly behind a pickup truck with mason equipment loaded in the back with a cement mixer being towed behind....

Don't ask me why, but i figured if i got behind this truck i would definately have 2-3 new nicks and a possible cracked windshield the way this guy was trailing rocks. Good thing i was alone in the car otherwise my passenger would have thought i am out of my mind.

I have only driven my Vette to work 3 times, each time it was because I was going in late and coming home early...Too much crappy traffic and idiot drivers during rush hour. I have no nicks but feel your pain...

Know the feeling.
Headed down a road where they're moving tons of dirt. The other day it was clear (I was in my older DD) so today I took the 'vette down the same road.
WHOA!!!! Tons of mud EVERYWHERE!!! I drove between the tracks at 2 mph - had a "funeral line" behind me because I refused to go any faster!!!
Oh, well. 1 good hit at the self-serve car wash on the rinse took care of it!!

Come on, Sub, you gotta' at least TRY to take care of them, don't you?

I know what you mean. I live in an area close to a river where they haul gravel all the time. I have replaced three windsheilds in my DD 94 T-Bird (equal opportunity driver ) , so there is no way I take the Vette out on the highway unless have to. Anyways, I rather run it though the gearswhenever I get the chance!

On an outing last week in my '02 Torch Red Coupe, I'd promised to take the wife to the Dungeness Spit, a nice beach area on the north side of the Olympic Peninsula. Well, the road off the main highway leading out to the beach was under construction...nothing but crushed rock covering oily surface for as far as I could see ahead. After about 20 yards of driving VERY SLOWLY, I apologized to her and said that we'd do it another day. She was totally understanding and we turned around and headed home. For once I wished that we'd brought the steel car. Took her out to a real nice restaurant instead.

You're not alone when you do that. I'll drive a half mile out of my way to miss a puddle of water.

I would say this was a wise decision on your part.

I thought one of the joys of the 'vette is that because it's made of plastic it doesn't matter how many nicks it gets - it won't go rusty. I live out in the sticks and near a quarry. I either get chips out of the paintwork or I don't drive. Not driving is no option, so I grin and bear it.

Great move! Why risk it? Anyway, I bet your drive home was a little longer and there's nothing wrong with that!

I hate that! Nothing like getting in line behind some truck or dump truck or flatbed with some type of muddy piece of heavy equipment. Soon as they hit a bump, you get the "rat-a-tat-tat" of the debris.

I started to get pummelled by stones being transported by 3 guys in an old Ford F250 pickup on I-66, so I got on the gas to get around them. Sad part was, they were admiring my car, and didn't even realize what the situation was!

Absolutely, positively, without doubt nor hestitation, I would have done the same thing. Experience has been th ebest teacher regarding following certain kinds of vehicles. By far the worst experience occurred last summer.

On I-5 heading North, golf clubs in back and smile on my face, I somehow managed to come up behind a horse trailor being towed by some kind of dualy pickup. Just as I am thinking "this is not a good spot to be in", the occupant of the horse trailor (presumably a horse) lets loose with what must have been three gallons of Hershey squirts right out the back of the trailor.

Needless to say, golf didn't happen that day. It's amazing how much grass is actually in that stuff!?!

Did the right thing. Go with your gut. Avoid all road problems, plus you get alittle more drive time to enjoy your Corvette. Save the Wave.>George

Did something similar yesterday. Fell in behind a small beater pickup truck at a stoplight and noticed immediately that it was full of construction waste. You've seen this stuff -- small bits of wood, drywall, broken window frames (with glass ).

The city traffic was too heavy (welcome to Northern Virginia) to pass so I took the next turn into a 7-11 and got a Coke. Got back on the road after about 15 minutes.

You guessed it. Just a couple of miles down the road, this junk is over the right hand lane and the truck and two cars, plus an LEO, are pulled over with the LEO talking to the truck driver. Seems his tail gate failed, dumping this crap onto the road. Couldn't tell if the other cars had damage but I can't think of another reason they'd be stopped behind this truck.

Keep your eyes open, gang!

Yes, you are the only one!

Been there, done that. It's just not worth the potential damage.

I was following my wife, she's in the Expedition. We start to pass a transom (double dump truck). So I'm driving in the emergency lane so that the Expedition is a debris shield. Of course my wife thought I was falling asleep at the wheel or had lost my marbles.
