Default More Air

What is the least expensive and best way to get more air for my 2004 C5? Should I remove the air filter cover and strap down the air filter or purchase a Z06 cover or a modified air filter cover offered in the mags?Your suggestions will be helpfull.

Thanks
Steve

I would get a Blackwing or a K&N Twin Cone or anything!

You could do the zip tie mod, which would be least expensive. Do a search for it.

Which is exactly what you described in your post. Don't waste any money on the Z06 box. The "zip tie" mod will work better, and costs basically nothing. Use "large" ties to secure, and seal, the filter.
You'll feel the difference The car may take 50-100 miles to adjust for the increased air flow into the intake.

The Blackwing, or Halltech Stinger, are excellent aftermarket filters that look much better, than the "zip tie" mod, and will get you a tad bit
better performance. But they cost in the $200-$250 range.

Welcome to the addiction

And then there's the Vararam systems which will run you about $350 or so but promise enough additional horsepower to launch you and a passenger into space!

IMO, what's the point? Do you really think you'll feel the slight increase in HP? Unless you plan to race it, why spend the money? Use the money to buy gas and enjoy the ride! IMO..

If you install the Vararam intake system or any other brand of intake, you will deffinately feel the difference in SOTP performance.

Do the Zip Tie method or get something like the Blackwing or Halltech Stinger. All should deliver better performance.

Default Z06 air box

Want a stock looking set up, buy the factory GM Z06 air box #12567571. GM list price $64.68, another way is to cut a big square
in your stock air box with a dremel. Or buy an aftermaket style, all depends what you what to spend. Save the Wave.>george

unless you are going to race it at the track and also do other mods (LT headers, less restrictive exhausts etc. = $3k then you are really not going to get much for your $350 IMHO

I vararamed the coupe and zip tied the Z. Ziptie is the best if your not a drag racer, methinks

Noticed on the C6 this past weekend that the new airbox lid is about 1" above the filter and you can see the filter from the sides. They just set it up as a rain shield but left it very open flowing.

You said do a search for it. Is there a special way to tie down?

The search will give you the step by step removal instructions (some with picturess).

short version:

unscrew the clamp. pull the crossover off of the grommets. pull the filter housing off the studs (both top and bottom) remove lid. put some zip ties together and wrap the filter on each side. reverse the first 3 steps.
