Has anybody here driven the Dragon and exactly where is it?
They mention in the C6 special edition of CQ that it is 316 turns in 11 mi. That's a lot of twisty turny road!

my younger brother and his wife have done the Tail of the Dragon several times on their Harley's....last time they did it, one of his friends broke his collarbone...seen lots of pics and as much as i'd like to do it in the C5 i also hate cross-country trips just for that purpose

U.S. Highway 129, heading South from Knoxville to the NC border. The road continues into NC, but it's best on the Tennessee side. I've driven it in the vette, a Miata, and several times on a sport bike...it's everything it's cracked up to be.
It's best to go on a weekday when the traffic is light. You won't be seeing three-digit speed....the straights are short and the curves are tight. It's mostly a second-gear road. Don't take passengers who are prone to carsickness....they'll hurl for sure.
Be careful...the road itself is unforgiving and there's rarely a shortage of lunatics (especially on motorcycles) eager to center-punch the hood of your Corvette.
The scenery is beautiful...it's a terrific drive even at a sane pace. There are also other great roads in the area...one of my favorites is the Cherahola Skyway.

Ive driven it several times. Always fun, but watch for the cycles. Some of the drivers are crazy!!

Going to drive it this fall with girlfriend. Nashville is only 3 hours away! I understand the Dragon is inspiration for Dragon's Breath Performance outside Knoxville.
I live at the base of the Dragon and as dfutrell mentioned, it's less crowded during the week with fewer cops. Only thing during the week is that there is more tractor/trailers making deliveries and they take up the WHOLE road on a lot of curves so watch for them!
Foothills Parkway is finally open after 1 & 1/2 years and it's a great drive too.

I drove The Dragon last year with a group from Louisiana & the Smokey Mountain Cruiser. Its a lot of fun to drive especially if you drive it with other corvettes. The Cherahola skyway is a great drive too.
