Default Confused on gear pricing

On this website www.drivetrainsuperstores.com they have gears for about $375. What is the difference between these and ones that sell for over $1000? Are the rebuilt, etc...? Thanks

Gear sets don't include the rest of the differential including the case and other components. They also don't include the labor to assemble them. The "gears" you see advertised and discussed here refer to an entire differential subassembly that's been rebuilt with the appropriate ratio set. Rebuilding one of these requires the proper training and equipment.

Thanks. So when someone says they are changing gears to say 4.10's are they buying the whole differential and do you need to buy the whole differential? Lets say I was having the differential seal leak on my car fixed. Now could I just buy the gears and have them installed or would have to buy the whole differential.

Yes, you could. I bought an extra, used differential, sent it to DTE and had them rebuild it as a 4.10 gearbox. Then I had it shipped here and installed.
