Default Flat kit

Hi I just bought a 01 Z06 and got a flat tire today Anyways got the wheel off and ordeal in itself since the car had been lowered. So I'm going to get it fixed or replaced tomorrow. But I know they came with flat kits is this something that just sat in the back like a little case or is it hidden somewhere out of site and I may have one in the car?? If so where is it??

Sits in the back in the right side cubby hole. Very pricy.

The only thing you would want out of the kit anyway is the compressor, forget the goop that is included. You can purchase the same compressor from another source online much cheaper. I would also get a vulcantizing plug kit. Napa makes a good one, it uses a gun for the plugs and cost around $100.

There should have been a black plastic case residing in one of the rear cubbies. It's too big to be stored any place else. Where did you buy the car? They owe you the GM kit that came with the car and it costs about $400.

You can assemble one yourself for much less, but it's still the point that a safety related accessory (that should have been in the car) is missing.

Hey Northerner. How are things you’re way. Only problem with plugging tires on Vettes such as a Z06 is those plugs are not speed rated. Plugs are great if you don't drive over 120 MPH, and I know no one here would ever do that.

Thats true but at least the pugged tire will get you home. I would replace the tire too or do an internal patch.

I plugged race tires going above 200 MPH for years with this NAPA kit. I never had a problem! Goodyear finally caught me and put a stop to it. However, when you have a set of scuffed tires and you lose one, you lose all four or you take a chance the new tire will not perform/match. Race tires get much hotter than street tires but the Goodyear guys could not see the plugs when they took the old tires off. The gun shoots the plug into the tire and the internal part of the plug is larger than the hole it is pluging so air pressure holds it against the inside of the tire. Be sure to cut the extra part of the plug on the outside off.

My 03 Z06 has 30,000 miles on it and three of the tires are plugged with this type plug. I have no concern in taking it up to 180 MPH (rev limiter changed).

However, it is your car and life. Please be careful.

I hear ya. But you’re talking race car / race track. I'm talking street car. You race at your own risk on the track. No liability out there. If a F1 shreds at high speed G.Y. more then likely will be held liable. That's all void if they find the plug. But I still hear ya, been plugging tires for years, but haven't earned the trust at that speed like you have.

Excellent idea and I believe the patch is warranteed safe on certain areas of the tire.

The Napa kit is very nice, I almost can't wait to have to use it. It's part #710-1028 if anyone is interested. Having vulcanizing plugs makes a big difference over regular plugs.

With all the good advice from Shylor & Painrace, I just ate my words and had my kid buy me one at his shop.

Good insurance. I keep my cell and AAA membership, but if I can just "patch" it quick and move on, could save me a ton of time!

Why get the NAPA plug kit if the same kit from JC Whitney is $40 (according to Conjunctivitis)?
