Default Driving lights

Those little driving lights (sport lamps?) in the grille area of my 99 are just about worthless. They add about 1.76% more light just in front of the bumper. My 97 Grand Prix sport lamps are so much better. Are there replacements I can get to increase the luminocity? Actually, I do think they look cool when they are on, but it would be nice if they were more functional.

I might be corrected on this, but I'm sure my owners manual says those are fog lights, not driving lights. Use them for what they are and you won't be so dissapointed in them.

Get yourself a set of PIAA 1100's. They are brighter than my headlights.

Mike, those little lights are not driving lights, nor are they sport lamps(?). They are FOG LAMPS. They basically do their intended purpose. Some have upgraded the bulbs to 885's and re-aimed them. Others have changed them out to driving lights. Namely, PIAA 1100x's, and swear by them. Me? I just re-aimed mine and am happy for now. When one burns out I'll upgrade them both to the 885's.

There are also Euro lamp conversions, which require a new lamp assembly and wiring harness. I am in the process of upgrading both the headlamps and fogs to useable Euro lamps. Both Daniel Stern Lighting and PFYC are sources that I am aware of. Stern has a great deal of information about lighting on their web site. Check it out. Even with lamp changes, DOT light standards suck. Gotta go Euro or HID.

The stock lights are simply fog lights. If you want driving lights, check out some PIAA's - many of the forum vendors sell them.

PIAA's!

I did the PIAA's and realized how bad the headlights are. Next mod was teh HID's from Banks.

Thanks for all the info. See, this is why I frequent this forum. You all put up with morons like me. I will wait for some fog and try them before I change anything.

IMO Piaas are a waste of $ and you're spendin the few hundred bucks on the name brand. They're just dichroic bulbs. This is what I did- got a pair of Pilot fogs that have dichroic bulbs off ebay for $17 shipped. They included yellow lights but it looked funny on a c5 with yellow fogs. So, I went to home depot and bought a pair of "T" brackets. They also have 12 volt 50 watt dichroic halogen lights that fit the foglight housing perfectly, I think they're made for track lighting or store displays, $10 for a pack of 3.
Did some cutting and drilling and bending (total time, about 15 minutes), mounted the new fabricated brackets that fit right onto the OEM bracket holes that fit the bumper. Cut apart a pair of the OEM bulbs, filed it down some so a 1/8" quick discconect would fit over them, used dielectric grease on them, then heat shrunk over it to weather proof it. Plugged it into the OEM harness, and turned them on. I think they work just as good as the Piaas do but for a fraction of the price. Total cost $30 or so.

Is the PIAA a direct replacement bulb, or do you need to mount the entire assembly and the brackets?

Since Z's don't come with the useless FOG lights I installed the PIAA's. Holy Cow now those are driving lights.

I just got my PIAA's. What's the best way to get at the fogs to replace them. There is not much room to get at them from inside the hood!
