You have lot of good advice in this thread. Just to add a little bit. There were a lot of small improvements made on the 01 car and later.
If it fits your budget lean towards 01 and later years.
If you get one of these years, just make sure that you let the dealer know that during those years was when the Ring Design Problem (It took GM a good 18 months to admit it) ocurred which caused excessive oil burning. This is realy no big deal but you gotta make sure from the dealer that if this happens to you, there wont be any issues in fixing it. With a warranty, there should be no problem. Just monitor your oil.
BTW, I'm not trying to knock the '00 or '01 models because every year has had some issues but I just want to let you know.
