Default Mechanical differences between 99-03 ??

Need some help deciding which year corvette convertible I should be considering. I dont think price is that great of a difference and I have heard that the available options from those years I am interested in are not that different. But what about those mechanical adjustments, were there any important mechanical changes made between these years that I should be aware of? And if so what do you think are the ones I should really consider as important???

Thanks for the advice I have had a 1977, 1982, & a 1994 and now am looking for my first convertible in a C-5 and dont want to buy one only to find out I should of gotten a different year because of??.

Buy the newest Corvette you can afford! There were lots of changes over the years -- many that are small and might seem inconsequential, but they all make for a better car. I saw a list of the changes going from '98 to '99, and I was very surprised because most of the changes have never been discussed on the forums, or in magazines. I'm sure other years also had many changes for the better that most of us are not even aware of. It's kinda like the changes from year to year among C4s. (Though the changes with the C4s were definately more radical in some years! Like the engine change going from '91 to '92 -- or the change to bigger brakes from '94 to '95!)

Once again, CF provides outstanding information! Even if as noted there may be more, just these highlights from Jake are terrific!
Thanks...Bill

First welcome to the Forum!

Several notable changes and enhancements to the C5 came about in model year 2001. Click on each of the following links to learn more:

Second-Generation Active Handling

Thicker Convertible Top and Other Interior Refinements

Hp & Torque Increases

Also, you can read more about each of the model years here (C5 model years are toward the bottom left):

NOTE: Keep in mind though that some model year 2001 corvettes have reportedly had some oil consumptions issues as reported here on the Forum.

Hope this helps and good luck with the purchase!

Thanks everyone learn something new everytime I ask here. Are the oil consumption problems something I need to look at or for?

I would think so if you're looking at a 2001. My understanding is that the problem has mainly been with that model year. However, there are those here who are more familar with this problem than I and they can better provide you with details.
