Greetings. I have been reading about some of the paint issues here on the forum. I've noted through several comments that the Mag Red color is hard to match in the event of a mishap. Are there other colors on the C5 that have the same problems? I am considering Mag Red as a color option for my first Corvette. Should I reconsider?
Thanks to all for the best resource for Corvette information.
Mag Red and Millennium Yellow both used a tinted clear coat which makes them hard to match. Also any color that has a LOT of metallic like Spiral Grey is hard. Note "HARD" not "IMPOSSIBLE". A good paint shop shouldn't have any real trouble matching any paint. I wouldn't let any repair horror stories change your mind about what color to get. Mag Red is a great color!
The colors that are hard to match are Mag red, Millenium yellow and Anniversary Edition red the reason being is that these are tri-coat colors (3 different shades make up the color) base coat, tint coat and clear coat. I've also heard of a couple people having a hard time match the spiral grey but I'm not sure why
What does anyone know about touching up quicksilver (02 color)
I was behind and off to the side of a dump truck and it hit a bump in the road and sprayed my hood with tiny rocks. I have at least 12 dimples and 2 or 3 rock chips that look black. I am weary of samding these spots down thought I could just dab some paint on them.

QS is pretty hard to match also, metallic again. You could try this stuff. Langka
Pewter can be somewhat tricky, but a good body shop should be able to get it to match very well.
But actually any paint color can be messed up by a shop that doesn't know what it's doing. We've had posts by folks saying how hard black is to match, too. I wouldn't let any of that sway my decision on color choice.
