I just read the thread about the throttle body bypass and the argument about HP. Lets get a collection on money for mods or the mods themself together and test them out. Maybe a vendor or two will donate them. I have access to a free dyno if we can get the stuff together I'll us my 03 Z06 and we'll test them out to see what actual REAL numbers are. These would have to be the small mods, things we can install in minimal time, like an air cleaner, throttle body bypass, throttle bodies, maf sensors, smooth air duct, etc....
Yes, no, maybe? Has is been done before? Is it a dumb idea?
I think this would be a great idea. To get vendors to donate parts to this testing, maybe after they have been used for testing, the parts could go up for auction for St. Judes. Just a thought.
I believe that you will find that very few vendors will actually want their stuff dyno tested or any other quantitative scientific testing. That way they can can keep relying on testimonials, hear-say, and SOTP experience.

If actual real-life data were to be found, the vendors would lose out on the fools that buy a lot of this crap.
I'd suggest doing a simple search for any specific mod you might be considering. The word of mouth is very often less enthusiastic than the advertised hp numbers used to push the parts....ie: aftermarket MAF's or TB Bypasses.
In some cases, a mod may add hp...in others, it may cause problems or loss of hp. The general problem with arriving at a definitive concensus is that no two cars are the same, and what works for you and your level of mods and tuning may not work for the next guy with different equipment. If everyone out there started from the same place, and had all the same mods, and drove in the same conditions and in the same manner, it would be easier. But since that's not the case, individual results will always vary.
These are the cheap mods, I'd hardly go through the trouble to save such a small amount of money. We weren't going to test superchargers, cams, heads, etc..
If I own a Corvette I think I can afford an air bridge, air cleaner, etc....
