I use an actual rubber hockey puck. Cost $1.
Just be careful to put it in the right place.
the hockey pucks will do the same thing as the one's for $69
you can even throw an eye bolt in to hold it in place
as listed in the "How To Do" section
Now thats a great idea. Can a hockey puck be cut in half? I'm too cheap to buy 4. No really. I think I can hit the mark better if it was a little smaller.

I got the BMW pucks for about $5 each. I left them in and put a dab of liquid nails on them to keep them from rattling. This way they are always there and a tech can't "forget".

if i go to my local bmw dealer, what do i ask for? are these used on certain cars/applications (e.g. m5, z3, z4, ???) ...got a part number?
FWIW, I have the aluminum pucks. I figured I didn't want to take a chance on the hockey pucks compressing or slipping. Many here have used them with great success though.
Hockey Pucks, so far, so good. Just used them for the first time last night. I didn't use the double hockey puck setup, just used 1 with the 1/4" eye bolt. Worked fine. That was with the front only on jack stands though. Got the pucks from Play It Again Sports for $0.80 a piece.
Unless your car is LOWERED I don't understand why anyone would use a puck.
Heck use a 2 x 6 about 2 feet long and you can slide up under the rear support and lift BOTH rear wheels up at once, or slide that same board under the side support and you can lift up both wheels on one side at the same time.

Okay that's all fine and dandy when at home, but what about when your car is at the dealership and they put it on a lift? In most cases, they don't use any jacking pucks and they usually wind up placing the lift arms right at the rocker panels - which winds up putting stress cracks in the rocker panels, which in turn are not very easily fixed.
Pucks are cheap insurance to help prevent body damage from improper lifting of the car.

Or, you could use a hockey puck that doesn't put splinters into your fingertips.
nwdanner I am lucky. I only live about 8 miles from Buds chevy where I purchased my car. They are a very large vette dealer, and have a service dept. that IMHO is 2nd to none. I have ZERO concerns when I take my car there, that the work will be done correct and with no damage to the car in any respect. But I do understand your point of the pucks being an aid to people, who have to use dealerships that don't put vettes up on lifts every day.

With the hockey pucks you have less chances of slipping because they are rubber and using double pucks you don't have to worry about the compression issue.

I have a set of the hard rubber ones that I got from Corvette Accessories Unlimited. Works fine. You can make these from hockey pucks as mentioned above and I guess they work well too.
