I have a 2 month old yellow C5 and need some advice. I just noticed an indentation in the plastic bumper material just below where it meets the fender on the drivers side, just behind the headlight. It appears that the seams of the 2 parts don't quite match up. It has the appearance of a dent. It seems like (but we can't figure out how) it has been pushed in a little and kindof stuck? I'm unsure of the cause and what to do about it. It was not that way a week ago when I last hand washed it, and is most noticable in the sun. There is no paint damage. Will appreciate all questions and words of wisdom on this.
This phenomenon is common in that area of the bumper on both sides. It seems to be caused by stresses that build up from the initial assembly and subsequent flexing of the fascia relative to the fender. I see it on the rear fascia as well where it meets the rear quarter panel.
I helped a friend loosen the fascia and adjust that area until the depression was minimized. It looked much better when we were done. I took out the air dams and closeout panels underneath and loosened the nuts inside the fascia that attach it to the fender. Then we played with it until we got it where it looked best and buttoned it up.
We did it on a lift but you can do it just as easily on ramps or jack stands or anything to raise the front a bit and give you access to that area.
Patches,
Thanks, you described almost exactly what it looks like to me and I had considered your solution. It just looks slightly deformed from some kind of stress. I will sleep better now, even if I don't fix it right away.
