Well, called the dealer last weak, explained that I had the first recall procedure done on my 97, and the service tech said "Oh ya we know about the second recall, bring it in, no problem". So I did it, drove 60 miles to the dealer. The service guy took my info, got in, drove towards the shop, did a u-turn, parked it where I left it, and went back inside. I follow to hear..."Well sir, your Vette has already been fixed" showing me the history on the screen. I explain the same stuff again, and then hear "We didn't know your VIN # and the new recall is only for 98 and up".
Did I drive 60 miles for this yahoo to tell me bogus info?
I did see the notice and it say's 98 up.
Is this right????
Here is my recall woe:
Got my recall two weeks ago. Just prior to the recall notice, the DIC displays "service column lock". I have a 1999 Coupe. Going back to 2000, I bought it used in 4/2000 and in 6/2000 the steering column locked on me. Towed it in and had if fixed. Thought the fix was done. Then 4 weeks ago, the steering column wouldn't lock or didn't hear that noise of the pin locking and the "service column lock" show up on the DIC. Take it in at 7:30am and show the recall notice to the service person. Leave and at 1:30 pm calls me and says the recall was already done but cannot to anything about the "service column lock" message on DIC. The message comes on everytime the car is started. Tells me cannot remove the message and thinks the solenoid is not working, but with more time and money to check could get the message to not show. But tells me to "live" with the message showing on DIC. So I leave wasting a day without the car and now a message on the DIC showing everytime the car is started. Have to push "reset" to get the message off the DIC. Why as a corvette owner do I need this.

Do you have the M6 or the A4? I have a '97 A4 and got the recall in the mail months ago. I understand the M6 recalls were going to come later. Still haven't decided what to do, but bite my nails everytime the CLB causes the BCM to give me the "pull key" on the DIC.
Well TC, mine is an A4, and I'm talking about a second recall that I read about on this forum. Can anyone tell me for sure what they did on the first recall, the service tech said it was a wiring harness or something. From what I understand, the second fix is to remove the lock plate.
What happened to the posted recall notice?????? anyone???
If you have any LS-1 edit done to your car it will be totally removed with the dealer flashing of the PCM. Guys with heads, cams, tuning are going to loose everything. Think twice before taking it in. However, if the car is stock with no LS-1 edit then go for it. Good Luck

The 2nd recall on the A4 is the same as the 1st recall, just includes the vehicles that GM felt nessecary to leave out of the 1st recall
The recall procedure on the M6 is a different procedure than the 1st recall, that didnt work, which the new recall doesnt fix either

no easy way to say this pal, what are you waiting for ?
The fix for an A4 absolutely fixes the problem for ever, if you understand what they are going to do. They take the plate and pin out and you never have to bite your fingernails again.
Geez what the h + + l are you waiting for ? It is absolutely free. It removes forever the potential for having a problem . . . and you don't know what to do ?

No need to flame, dude. I don't blindly trust GM and the dealer on this issue. The first recall didn't work; the second could be the same. Also, I have LS-1 edit on my PCM. One person says the recall will reprogram only later models, another person will say it affects all models. You say they remove the pin. Haven't read that one before. Since retraction of the pin is necessary to send the signal to the BCM that the steering wheel is unlocked, how can they remove the pin? I still haven't found anyone to tell me that it will address the electrical side of the issue, i.e. eliminate the "pull key" message. All I've seen is that the lock plate will be removed so the steering wheel won't lock. So yeah, no problem with the wheel locking, but what about the PCM shutting off the fuel? Can anyone answer this question??
