Default GMPP vs. GEICO MBI

Does anyone have GEICO's Mechanical Breakdown Insurance http://www.geico.com/auto/mbi.htm ? I got a quote of $44/6 months. It seems to cover everything that the GMPP covers and it can renewed for seven years or 100K miles.

I'm a GEICO adjuster... it's a great option and can easlily pay for itself. Problem is that you have to get it before 12 months of 12,000 iles I think so it'll overlap your factory warranty for a few years.

The overlap isn't that much of a problem considering the price, which if I get for the full term is only $616. Am I reading the information correctly, in that it covers "ALL" systems in the car and not just mechanical items? Does that also include items such as the F55 Suspension and all electrical systems as well?

I honestly don't know being that I'm an auto damage adjuster, not in sales/service. You'd have to call into service to get a more detailed answer. I'm thinking shocks are considered a wear item, but I dunno.

Default GMPP vs. GEICO MBI

I just renewed my 6mo policy for my 2009 C6 and noticed the Geico Mechanical Breakdown Insurance went from about $15 every 6mo to 46 and change every 6 months. Assuming they don't raise the rate again the total out of pocket for the 7 years/100,000 mi I will be paying for this Geico MBI will be ~$120 for first two years and ~470 for the time I have left or about $710.

When I asked them if struts, nav screen, & abs computer were covered in 2009 they said "it's all covered."

You will have some aftermarket /preowned replacement part challenges to negotiate I'm sure. But that is covered in other threads.

No claims on my part yet, but we'll see.

I have Geico and have MBI on my other 2 vehicles. But the C7 doesn't qualify for the coverage (they don't really offer an explanation why). And unlike a GMPP or other aftermarket warranty, the coverage has to be elected prior to the vehicle being 15 mos old or attaining 15K miles. But it's relatively cheap, covers everything except maintenance items for 7yrs/100K miles and has a $250 deductible. I figured it's a little added insurance for anything that would cost me more than $250 out of pocket on my vehicles as I tend to outrun the 3yr/36K bumper to bumper pretty quick. I was just really bummed that they didn't offer it for the Corvette.

I switched to Gieco a few years ago. They offered MBI on my DD but not on my C5 because of it's age even though it had under 50k miles. My DD, a 2013 Ram Hemi had a bumper to bumper factory warranty for 3 years and a 100k miles drive train warranty so I declined.
In Feb. I traded my DD for a 2017 Ram Hemi. Without asking they added and billed me for MBI which had a $250 deductible. They were happy to insure my truck for breakdown and take my money for a brand new vehicle with a full factory warranty. Fortunately I found their "error" and deleted the coverage. Like most insurance companies, they are CROOKS looking to empty your pockets.
