I had always wanted my Father's 57 Chevy Belair, two door hardtop! I never imagined I would own a beautiful LeMans Blue Corvette convertible! It is my ultimate dream car! So much fun to drive!
I also came from humble beginnings and a Vette was a dream car for more years then I care to remember. Although, I used to eat them up with my 57 Chev. B Modified Production that I ran on the street way back in the prehistoric 60's... hee, hee. Ate all Fords also. What concerns me today when I sit back and think about it, is that our political leaders are not assuring the future of this once great republic. This country is now a debtor nation and the Chinese and Japanese own 40% of our bonds. Any time they want to pull the plug on our mortgage, we will have a huge economic crisis. Also the Federal Reserve is increasing the M3 money supply at an alarming rate, which causes inflation, which is a hidden tax on the value of your hard earned money. This inflation erodes the standard of living. Since the Fed's inception in 1913, there has been 1719% inflation. Job exporting isn't helping anyone either. Don't mean to be negative, but it is important that we stay politically in tune, so we don't loose what economic greatness remains, and the freedom that so many have sacrificed their lives for. We have to keep earning it!
I agree 100%, by the grace of God we were blessed to have been born here, as opposed to some place like Rwanda or Iraq or Cuba for that matter. I can’t imagine the stress of having to deal with the thought of my family being killed for religious or political beliefs. Can any of us fathom waking up one day and thinking that our best opportunity for happiness, is to climb in an inner tube and start floating in the ocean praying we survive to reach the United States, where we will be treated with total disdain and disrespect. Imagine living in conditions where you are striving to one day be able to sneak across the border and do hard physical labor for 1/3 the going rate for labor, so that you can send money back home for your children. By the grace of God I was born an American and live In a land where I am able to live the “good life” if I put forth the effort to obtain a skill, and then apply that skill.
Can't say I've alwasys wanted a Corvette. It just kinda happened. I do remember reading about them in car mags as I was growing up. My first new car was an '89 CRX Si and I was blown away by it. How well it handled, how small it was but roomy inside for my 6'2" body. At the time it didn't have much image other than another honda, but look how folks have tune the hell out of them now. My first Vette was a '96 then a '99 I sold the '99 last year thinking I wanted an SUV and I was really starting to get into motorcycles.
But now, I miss my vette and after seeing the '05, I plan to get an '01 Vert and wait a few years for the '05 to go through its teething problems.
The only cars I've dreamed of owning are Lamborghini, Ferrari or even a Porsche 911.

My parents entered this country ilegally many many years ago and have worked hard all their lives, never collecting any form of government aid and making the best with the hand that was dealt them. They did it so that we could have the opportunities that they didn't have, access to a better life, and a better education. No one will give you anything, it must be earned and I felt I owed it to my parents to ensure that their sacrifice wasn't in vain. I will be graduating from USC with a Masters in Electrical Engineering and the pride on my parents face is all the reward I need. ( Well that and my C5 which I bought as an early graduation present to me! )
I hear ya brother. While life is good for most of us, remember the people who were enjoying the life we are enjoying but lost it all due to lay-offs, sickness.......
