I'm new to the Forum and appreciate all the good advice. I will soon take ownership of a low mileage used 04 Z06 (500 miles) and want to know what my options might be for purchasing an extended warranty. Can I go to a local GM dealer, or are there better options out there?
Purchase the GM Protection Plan. You can use any dealer. There are a number of options on this plan. I have the 24 month/50,000 mile extended warranty, as I will be putting 25,000 miles per year on my Z.
In addition, if you go with a GM extended warranty, they may also offer a $50 tire road hazzard option that protects (on a prorated basis of course) in case you get a nail, etc and need tires repaired/replaced. I had received this option with my new 04 Z and extended warranty purchased at delivery time without actually requesting or knowing it existed ... Just a side thought for you to consider.
I asked Ken Fitchner for help on extended warranties when I bought my 2001 Z06. He is a great resource for accurate information, a person of outstanding integrity, and a true friend to any Corvette owner.
Ken helped me get the right extended warranty at the best possible price. Thank-you Ken.
Thanks everyone, I've talked to Fichtner and you are right. Great help, excellent price and easy to work with. Now I just have to make a good estimate of the miles I expect to drive a year to get the right contract. I did ask about the tire warranty option and it is only available on new never titled Vette's.
I got a tire warranty on my 01 (purchased used in July from a dealership). It covers the rims and tires from road hazzards. I think it was $295 for 5 years, or something like that.
