Horsepower needed
I just bought a '99 a4 conv. and am wanting to get more hosepower out of it. What is the best way to do so without spending a ton of money.

There isn't
J/k seriously it depends on your definition of "ton on money" to get any decent HP out of a C5 your looking at probablly anywhere from 2k-9k,, depending on if you get an S/C or heads/cam or on and on and on...it's not cheap either way.,, also depends how much HP you want? you could easily spend 800-1k on an exhaust and intake and youre looking at maybe 12-15hp...

change the rear end to a 4.1 and you will feel like you picked up 100 ponies.

I don't think 12 or 15 horse is going to do it for me. would it be more effective to just lay down the money for supercharger or go with nitros?

I'd like to run in the low 12's or even the high 11's in the 1/4.

Suggestion,
Give John Page (21st Century MD in the DFW area) a call (972 417 7177).
LPE is having a sale on LPE H & C, Kooks headers, exhaust, underpully, etc. (and for the MN6 a LUK clutch).
HP gains are impressive: approximately 110 at the rear wheels.
Best part: all for $5995!

Not bad! Wouldn't I get the same results from a supercharger?

Close. However, a S/C has two drawbacks:
It is another part that can fail, and
With a S/C you just cannot get that sweet sound through the exhaust unless you do the H/C, and headers and exhaust.
So, if you want that '50s sound, with a S/C you'll spend another $5k (approx). For what?

Headers, high flow cats, new exhaust will get you about 30-40 HP. Heads and cam will be a definite improvement, but costs do add up.

Well, if you want to pull a ton of "Gs", twin turbos are for you but not at K-Mart prices.
