Default GM Performance Parts questions...

I have a couple of GM performance parts dealers right around the corner
from me, and I was wondering if anyone has purchased GM performance
parts and let the dealer install them. I saw on
www.gmgoodwrench.com that with a GM perf. cylinder head
and camshaft I can probably get at least 100 more horsepower. I figure
who better to do the installation than certified GM technicians? It
seems as though no one does this, but it makes sense to me to let GM
technicians install GM parts. Is this a bad idea? Should I instead go
with a specialist shop like MTI? I know they have heads/cam packages,
etc. I'm not sure I'm going to do anything yet because I love the way
the car runs now (daily driver), and I don't want to mess it up. But,
the lure of the almost magical 500 HP number is very tempting. Thanks for the input.

Buying from the dealers is fine, but shop around and try some quotes from Bean and Fitchner to make sure you are getting the best price. Unless you are taking the car to a Certified Corvette Specialist and are certian he will be working on the car and only him, it is a bad idea. The shop apes that most dealers turn loose on the cars could not hold down a job at a muffler shop or a lube shop and work for a dealer because they work cheap. There are some good dealers and good GM mechanics, but unless you can get a reccomendation from someone with personal experience stay away from dealers, they overcharge, they grease and oil the seats and paint on the car, they drop them off racks, take the cars for trips to the coffee shop and lunch and just do not care, because they do not answer to GM for their stupidity.

I would recommend you drive one of those cars with 100 more HP. To get that much HP I would think that cam is pretty big and you may not like the way it drives, sounds or idles. Just a thought.
And I agree with the previous post, a GM mechanic may be good but it doesn't mean he's ever been under the hood of a Vette since most guys take their Vette's to specialty shops and usually cringe when you mention a dealer doing any work.

A H/C only package from a named tuner that would get you 100HP would be tough!!
Thinking you can buy a couple parts from GM and have a tech put them in and you driving away 100HP better is never gonna happen!!
Call MTI, LG Motorsports, Lingenfelter, Mallet or CarTek depending on where you are in the country!!
