Is it just the Z16 that comes with this or is it all 04 Z's Also is it that much lighter? is it worth buying? I think I heard it was like 12lbs lighter. I don't see that big of a deal with it but I guess every pound helps at the track.
The CF hood is only available on the Z16. I looked at it on GM's parts site and to place an order for the hood, you need to have a VIN of a Z16. If you don't, they won't sell it to you. Good thing with the forum is you might find a Z16 owner that can help you out.
As far as the weight issue goes, it is 10lbs lighter than the standard Z06 hood. Does that really matter ... thats based on what you want out of your car. If you are just crusin with it, then I would save the money. If you are watching and wanting to reduce your cars weight, then it's something to consider. Weight is really the only benefit it provides and might not look quite as good painted as standard hood outside of the factory process. Although supposedly very strong (CF is supposedly 10x stronger than equivalent weight in steel), the hood feels quite flimsy to the touch when attempting to close, etc. depending on what other mods you plan, saving 10lbs on the hood could offset other gains you may be adding, however, you want the weight distribution maintained, so I would not recommend adding 10lbs in the rear and removing the 10lbs up front, etc.

Good luck with your mods !
Actually the Z06 is weight biased towards the front. Adding weight to the rear, and removing weight from the front could potentially make the car handle better. This obviously should only be measured on a set of corner weight scales.
I've been considering a CF hood. VISRacing.com has an OEM style hood that is very high quality about $550. They also have a raised cowl induction hood and one with vents all over.

Same goes with the wheels. I heard that GM even started wanting to see a copy of the registration because too many people were using other people's VIN's to buy the polished wheels.
It also removes 10lbs that are high up and up front, that has more of an advantage than removing 10lbs that might be low and centered.
Many of us suspect that the real reason behind this hood is so GM could get experience with CF for the C6 Z06.
