Lidatek Laser Jammer
The previous generation unit, the Lidatek Laser Echo LE-20, got great reviews from users, and they just came out with the new model, the LE-30. One has already been ordered for the C5, and I'm toying with getting one for the Camaro too. It uses an "emitter" rather than LEDs like all the other laser jammers(passport, blinder, K40), which they say is better because it is what the laser gun uses.
Wanted to see if anyone had experience with this unit.
There's a choice between one transponder or two - for a C5, it seems that one mounted in the drivers side fog lamp cutout, next to the plate cutout, would be close enough to the center of the car to provide coverage. That puts it close enough to the center, and since the C5 is tough to target on laser with no headlights and no plate, it should be enough.

Take it with a grain of salt though...each site seems to have different results, though most are pretty close to each other. This however, is somewhat disturbing on the effectiveness of the LE-20 and the results are pretty dismal. I would really research a product that did this poorly on a test. It's one thing to be pretty close to the competing products, it's quite another to be this far behind. Maybe there's more info out there?

I had it tested though by a nice man with a laser gun
(who offered such a service for a fee) to make sure it worked. Here is his website http://www.ukspeedtraps.co.uk/ I'm certain it saved me on at least 3 occasions, and possibly on a couple of others also.
Thanks for pointing out the newer version. I'm going to order it right now. I was thinking about bringing over my UK system but will keep it there now.
I'd get the full set up with an extra transponder to the rear (just in case). You can run with one to the front and one to the rear. One to the front was fine for my Celica in the UK, but here just to be sure, I'm going to get the full kit with three transponders... two to the front and one to the rear.

BTW, their website says they don't have the special rear transponder ready yet. You could just use one of the generic LE-30 transponders on the rear, but the dedicated rear transponder will be thinner, as most cars need a thinner rear one because of mounting considerations. There's no grill back there, so nothing to hide the transponder in.
I'm tempted to spring for the 2 transponder system (both in the front). The main control box for the LE-30 makes hookup easier than previous Lidatek units, it's kinda like a V1 hard wire power adapter. And it can support up to 3 transponders (so you can do 2 in the front and one in the back).
But what they are saying is that while you needed 2 transponders in the front with the old LE-20, you only need one transponder in the front with the LE-30, if you have a small to medium sized car.
While the Corvette is pretty big, it has a small laser signature - I don't know if that's the right term, but like a plane with a small radar signature doesn't show up well on radar, a Corvette is harder to get a laser reading off of than the average car, with no chrome, no visible headlights, and deeply recessed fog lamps. So I figure if there is any car one transponder can be effective on, it's a Corvette.
On the other hand, it's only $150 more to get two transponders, so you might as well go all out!

After it gets installed on the C5 (the single transponder kit was ordered this week for it) I think a laser gun test can be arranged. I'll report whether it works or not.
A rear flat transponder is great for cars where you don't have room to fit the standard one, but a quick look at the back of the vette makes me think this won't be much of a problem... I don't have my own car (it's still at 21st CMC) so I'm not certain yet though.
I may end up making my own custom rear surround to hide it in. At the front I am going to put one on each side of the plate behind the Z06 grills that I have now.
I figure that considering why you would make this purchase in the first place..
that the extra $150 for the second transponder on the front is worth it.I ran with a single transponder in the UK at the centre right below the plate and it worked perfectly. Since on my vette the transponder won't be perfectly centred and will sit back a little in the grill I decided on two just to be 'safe' if I get hit from off to either side.
If you can get a test arranged can I get my car tested too?
I'm currently in Dallas (until they move me to NJ
), I'm away in Europe until the end of next week though. Who's installing yours for you? or are you going to do it yourself?
