Default Temperatures and Fan Activation

Thanks to Evil Twin with his post about fans and coolant temperature, I have a better idea as to why my car hit 264 degrees yesterday. The low speed fan should come on at 226 F and the high speed fan at 235 F. When the A/C is on and the coolant temperature reaches 185 F the low speed fan should come on at vehicle speeds less than 35 mph. Mine doesn't, as I just let it idle and heat up to 210 F with the A/C on and no fan. I will now check when driving to see if the fans are coming on at 226 & 235. My point is that we are blessed with expertise here in this forum and that the search function is an incredibly valuable tool. My 03 Coupe is scheduled to go in to the Dealer on Tuesday 8/24, and it has been my experience that they need to be walked through the problem, or else lack of communication, or care results in awful performance. This forum has provided me with the necessary insights several times now to make the Dealer Service provide the correct solution. Discussion of these issues is a great learning tool.

Good deal. Glad you got some helpful info and hope you can figure out why the car is getting so hot.
