Default Magnetic Ride Control

I've got an '04 coupe with magnetic ride control. I really don't notice a difference in handling or road feel from one position to the other. Anyone else with F55? I would appreciate any input.

There is a subtle difference on good roads. You should feel a difference in the shock that you get in sport mode when you hit a sharp bump in the road. Railroad tracks is where F55 really shows you a difference.

They stopped using the shipping blocks late in the 2004 production run, around December I believe. If yours is an early 04, you might check for them. A lot of dealers did not remove them as instructed.

-edit- Get the car up on a rack or crawl under and raise the shock boot. Look for a little yellow strap hanging down. These would be on the front and rear shocks.

You're not pushing the car hard enough. Go find a winding road and drive as hard as your comfort level permits on tour mode, then go back and run it again on sport mode, then one last time in sport mode & competitive driving setting, then you should notice the difference.

For a more subtle test, try to find a bridge with steel decking and you should be able to feel the difference between the two settings as yo go over the expansion joints.

There is a difference when you go over "smooth" bumps like RR tracks. Car doesn't bounce up and down. It stays level. You will still "feel" or hear the concrete paving cracks and such. When you select the sport setting, you will be rock solid when going over bumps. Car will not tilt in fast curves, etc. We love ours. I thought all04's have different rod in the shock so no shipping stuffers as the 03's had, but see from post that it appears soem were shipped with the stuffers. Must have been a running MY change.

If you ever find yourself feeling remorse for paying so much for that option, remember this:

The computer-controlled real-time dampening itself, regardless of whether you've got F45 or F55 is a HUGE difference than a standard shock, regardless of what setting you have it on. Go drive one without it for a distance on a not-so-perfect road. After that, I can assure you that you'll be glad you just have the F55, and you won't care which setting you have it on.

Just my humble opinion.

I notice the difference on smooth roads! Switching from sport to tour mode on smooth roads is very noticeable to me. If someone switched the mode and I NEVER looked at the controls, I can tell which mode it is within 20 seconds of driving the car. Maybe I am more sensitive than others.

The car is much stiffer and on turns the car handles better.

My 04 CE had the stuffers still installed when I picked it aaup from the dealer. The stuffers are easier to see on the rear than the front. Look for a yellow tab that comes out from under the shock boot.

Default F55

Best option on my car. I also have an 04 and depending on road conditions you can really feel the difference between touring and sport mode.

Are you guys sh!ttin' me???!!! If I were you, I'd take the car back and have them re-check EVERYTHING! If the mechanic providing the A-service/prep missed that, what else did he miss? When I was running a sales department, the guy who a-serviced a demo for me, didn't tighten the lug nuts on the wheels. Another guy on another demo, forgot to top off the oil. Yet, another, didn't check the tranny fluid. I found that out on the first drive home when after about 10 miles, the tranny downshifted into first and never upshifted again for the rest of it's life, which was only another 30 miles! I guess a transmission can burn out quickly with no fluid in it, huh?

I would call GM first, just to get some documentation going, in case something potentially disasterous does manifest itself, which could possibly be attributed to improper prepping of the car. Plus, if the dealer does give you a hard time re-checking everything, you can get GM to help resolve the issue. You also want to have paperwork that indicates you had a re-check, in case you need ammo later.

Hopefully, the only thing they missed was the shocks, but you never know.
