I've been thinking about taking Precious (yes, my wife coined that name
and it stuck) to a car show near me. There are a couple of small town
shows not to far away, and theres one in Tulsa next month. I've only
attended car shows as an observer.
Any tips, comments or opinions from "don't do it" to "absolutely, go for it"
are welcome. Looks like it might be fun...am I right???
Pack a cooler and chairs. Oh yeah, meet some nice people and enjoy the show. Trophies are nice if you get one, but don't be like some where it becomes the reason to go. Every event has different criteria for the awards, ranging from qualified judges to peoples choice.
Go, I think they are awsome and I always have FUN. Now thats me, as for you figure out why you want to go. If your going and only thinking about winning something then you probally wont have as much fun. If your going to show your car, meet other car people, learn about car stuff, have fun & possibley win something you will have a much better time!
Two pieces of advice, if you can see it clean it, if it was not in the car when you bought it remove it. Failure to do either will cost you points if you are serious about winning. Good luck and have fun showing...
I agree with all of the above and also should mention that if your area is anything like mine you will face stiff competition.Car shows around here have many more Vettes than any other brand and some are very pristine.Last month I went to a huge show and took my Vette and my fully stock 350Z.The Z was in the import sports car class and only competed against 9 or 10 cars.I was beaten by an immaculate '59 bug eye Sprite and an equally nice '91 NSX.The Vette ,on the other hand, lost to 100 other Vettes I figure
Just have fun and good luck
When I attend a car show it takes me two full days to clean the car.
I remove the wheels and clean the finder wells and suspension pieces. Also clean the back and insde of the wheels.
Make sure to clean the air vents and get all the edges inside the emblem, Door jams and hinges, and condition the rubber seals.
That's just a few places people get marked off on.
And most important of all walk around meet people and enjoy yourself!
Don't take it to serious it's all about having fun.
Cheers,
Tim

Yeah if you want to win open your hood and show it off. Even if its stock you get points for it. Have everything nice n shiney!
A sincere Thanks everyone! I'm not going to spend 2 days cleaning her
up but I'll spend several hours. Since I'm going to drive her to the show, I
figure I will need to stop somewhere near the show to do a good touch up.
But the bottom line is just to go, meet other people and their cars, and
have fun!

Thats great cause I'm in the process of dressing up the engine now that
the performance mods are done (I think). I'll post pics when I get her dressed!!

Having been to a total of one car show now, I am a veteran!
Bring lawn chairs, water bottles, and find some shade! Clean your car the best you possibly can, inside and out, but then just enjoy the show, visit with your neighbors, admire their cars, and have fun. From what I understand, judges are fickle, so don't take it too seriously. Just go for the fun and comraderie.

WHOA! "It takes me 2 full days"
"Don't take it too serious - it's all about having fun." \
I'm getting mixed signals here! I don't see how 2 days of prep means "don't take it too serious" and after all that I'd be too tired to have fun!
I've been to a great many shows...Florida = year round, and
I've found the actual show part where I might win a trophy very
secondary. I just like to talk to other owners, check out rides.
The one time I thought I had no chance to win...I won my first
trophy.
A chair is most important though.

When you get to the show, you can do your final touch up right there where you park for the show!
All shows give the entrants time to spiff up their rides before any judging commences.
Just have fun man! You car is killer with those wheels and the way it sits. They'll love it, especially if it's new to the show crowd in your area.
I go to some shows and keep seeing the same cars all the time. It's refreshing to see new faces in the crowd, if you know what I mean.
Good Luck and have fun!!!
Be sure to have your chair(s) with you.

Thank you Glenn!! Just wanted to say, your car is tremendous!! I hope
they bring the EB back when I'm ready for my next vette. That is a
*Beautiful* color! I still have the image of yours you took last year
with the fall foliage, great picture!
I attend a show every weekend some times two. I love it and love the cars. People are great for the most part.
Go you will enjoy it.
Clean everything...and I mean everything if you want to win...or just go to enjoy. Always remember whe you think your car is the cleanest or the best there is always someone that is better so dont sweat it.
