Recently I changed to a new set of rims / tires and noticed at speeds 60-75 mph, the steering wheel would shake. I took it in for a 4 wheel alignment (125 bucks..) a couple of days ago, but it didnt seem to help much at all. I know that when you change rims and tires you need to get an alignment.
My question is this... If I tell the shop to check if my tires are balanced (pretty sure they have the Hunter machine), do i need to redo my alignment after they check the tire balance? I dont want to spend another 125 dollars if I dont have to. As a general rule, should you have an alignment everytime you take off your wheels?
Changing wheels and tires does not call for an alignment. As long as the new wheels are the proper fit for your car and unless your old tires were badly worn on either the inside or the outside you probably wasted your money on the alignment. Your tires are simply out of balance have them balanced where you bought them from as they obviously didn't get them balanced the first time. If they are reputable it shoudln't cost you anything. No you don't have to have an alignment when you take your wheels off, taking your wheels off has nothing to do with your alignment.
