Default Englishtown today

I got a chance to go to Etown again today. It was an "impromtu" Test&Tune day (open headers if you wanted) and a last minute Corvette Challenge event. Not many Vettes, probably due to the short notice. I did get a chance to meet Dr. Ron who is a real good guy.

The weather was very good (high 70's, with moderate humidity) and there were plenty of very fast cars testing and tuning. I had the misfortune of witnessing an older Viper vert which crashed the wall head on and totaled the car. The driver was fine, but his car was a wreck I think he was an inexperienced driver, since when he began to lose it (about 200 feet down the track) he stayed in it (a big mistake and by then it was to late. It also caused a 30 minute shut down of the track while they cleaned up.

I only could get 2 test passes in (had a family get together to attend) and I must say...I suck at launching on these F1's. My first pass was a 12.74@114.7 w/ a 2.17 60'. My second pass was a 12.43@115.4 w/ a 2.05 60'. If I could just get my 60's to 1.8, I am thinking that a sub 12 second pass is there. My car has the power, but the car driver doesn't yet have the experience. I will also say I was launching at about 2K rpm and dumping, then hammering it, and feeling a slight bog initially out of the hole (yes, I was in Comp mode). Could be that I need to ease it a bit to elimate that bog and improve the 60's.

Now Dr. Ron, on the otherhand, can drive. His car is essentially stock (unlike me) with the exception of a VaraRam, Edit Tune, and robz's old slicks (I knew I should have bought them). He made 2 passes of 12.0x@ 114+ and his 60's were 1.8. I am certain the 60's will improve as he gets use to launching on those slicks. Here's to a great job driving, Dr. Ron , the "tribe" is proud of you.

BTW, I also met a fellow (can't remember his name) with an awesome red Vert, running H/C w/ slicks. He ran a 10.9x time (can't remember his MPH), but that car can fly and he can drive to. Not sure if he's a member here, but here's to you as well.

Glad you enjoyed yourself! Sorry I had to miss this one, I had my eye on it. I'm having clutch issues (sticking at WOT) so until that is resolved the track will have to wait. The new clutch is on order and I hope will go in after Carlisle so until then I'll just have to baby her.

Thanks for the kuddos Don! Don is a very nice guy folks. His son was with him & he's a good kid as well. Don's car is very nice & we know that once he nails his launches he'll be flying!
My times were OK considering it was my first runs on DR's (they have maybe 15% useage left). In May (mid 70's) I went 12.08 w/ a 1.9 60' on street tires. Today, I ran 12.004,12.08 & a bogging 12.3 on the DR's . I was expecting better 60' times (1.82 & 1.86) & Et's, but the temps were in the mid to high 70's . I'll figure out launching these DR's yet! I'm waiting for the colder air to run again though.....

Ron,

Looks like you were only able to get one more run in before you had to leave. Hopefully, we can get a few folks together in late September/early October for a rental day at Atco and make many passes. Cooler air and a "prepped" track should lead you to some great 60's and lower 11's, and help me break the 2.0's in my 60's and maybe get into the high 11's on street tires.

Sounds good. Count me in. Fridays are best for me. I work the other days, but do alternating Saturdays. I'd need 3-4 weeks notice to make proper arrangements if it's a Saturday. I couldn't take a day off to go racing though.

Dr. Ron,

I saw it. I'll work on making this happen with your schedule in mind. I'll see Chris from ECS this weekend in Carlisle and ask him about the rental.

Dr. Ron,

I spoke with robz yesterday, and he'd be in on this as well if we can get it together for late September/early October. I'll keep you updated, for sure.
