As I was "cleaning" the car this weekend I notice the Black wing had some debris on it.
How do I clean it?
Detail instructions appreciated
if you purchase the recharging kit which is the cleaner and reoiler from one of the local forum dealers you will have a like new filter, here what the instructions say...
"1.preclean
Gently tap the air filter to loosen any large particulate or dirt. use soft bristle brush to remove any remaining loose particles.
2. clean
Spray Blackwing Air Filter Cleaner generously on the entire air filter and let it absorb for approximately 10 to 15 minutes.
3. Rinse
Rinse the blackwing from the air filter with a low-pressure water source. Make sure to rinse the filter out from the dirty side(air entry) to the clean side(air exit).
4.Dry
Gently shake the air filter to remove excess water. let the filter dry naturally. Avoid ant type of heat, compressed air, open flame or mechanical drying- this could result in filter damage.
5. Re-oil
Shake the blackwing air filter oil aeosol. Apply an even coat of filter oil to the entire surface. Make sure to cover every media pleat. Reapply filter oil to any uncovered(light to white)areas. let the filter oil wick(or adhear)to the filter media for 20-25 minutes.(i let stand for a day or soo)Do not use blackwing air filter without re-oiling.
6. Re-install"

Buy a cleaning kit and you will be set. It contains a spray cleaner and some new oil. It gives you detailed instructions. Just be sure you don't go overboard on the oil.
Just did mine a few days ago for the first time. I used the Blackwing cleaning kit which has complete instructions. Entire operation (cleaning, drying, oiling) took maybe 1/2 hour. Looks brand new now!

If you over oil it the Mass Air Flow Sensor can get gunked up and malfunction. Never had the problem but read about it a few months ago in a post where GM actually addressed the issue.
I just cleaned mine 2 weeks ago using the Blackwing Cleaner kit and following its instructions. Apparantly I did okay on the re-oiling because she has been running great!
