Take the 04 Z out for a spirited drive this afternoon. On a barren back road, I punch it in 2nd gear and at about 4-4500 rpm's I hear a loud pop. Almost like you would hear if you ran over a glass bottle or something. And I could have sworn I heard a jingle right after the pop. I slow down for a bit, check the instruments and such and nothing, so I go back to spirited driving. Thought about it for a bit and went back to where I heard the noise to see if I did in fact run over something and nothing there either. Got home and checked out underneath the car. Nothing dripping, nothing seems to be dented or missing. Now I've heard about the exhaust and the backfiring (heard it many times on deceleration), could the exhaust of made a popping sound under heavy acceleration? I also heard a jingle, so I'm hoping it was just the exhaust. Any thoughts? Thanks.
Thanks for the responses. I've heard that thud and it did turn out to be the sheet metal behind the passenger seat. But this sound was definately coming from somewhere underneath the car, almost like exhaust related. As long as nothing is dripping and nothing is dented, I'm guessing it's just one of the mysterious sounds that the Z makes.
My 2004 is making a loud Clunk sound when I first start driving. It is coming from the right front area of the car. I could not find the source of the sound myself. Now that the new recall is out about the washers, I am hoping that will take care of the sound. I bring my baby in on Thursday, I will let you know if that takes care on my mystery sound.
