Any tips on storing my 98 C5 when it's time to for the Mich. winter? Disconnect the battery, etc.?

Thanks

A suggestion that was on the forum several years ago and one that I in fact used was to put fabric softener sheets inside the engine compartment and also under the seats and in trunk area to keep rodents out. I did this several years in a row when I stored my car in Illinois. No rodent problems and it also smelled pretty good when I took it out of storeage.

Get a VDC Elecctronics Battery Minder or a Deltran Battery
Tender Plus. You can leave these on indefinately with no fear
of battery damage.

Here's what I do-------

1. Throw 4 moisture absorbant bags (got them from MAD) in car.

2. Disconnect and remove battery. Hook up Battery Tender Plus to battery.

3. Cover car

4. In early April reverse process---then get a oil change.

It's worked well for me over the past several years. Good luck....

I've had my 04 only two weeks now, here in Minnesota. I'll definitely have to store it this winter. My plan was to do the first oil change before I store it and then just start driving it in the spring. Would anyone recommend waiting on the oil change until spring??

Thanks all.

Do we have to start talking about this already?

I keep mine in a heated garage, covered, battery tender, up the air pressures in the tires (especially on my older cars) and try to take 'em out for a couple of runs if the roads become COMPLETELY clear of salt and salt dust.

I wait till Spring to change the oil...

Why can't someone figure out something to melt ice that doesn't melt cars?

Change Oil, Wash, wax, air up tires to 35 psi, put on battery tender, cover, ignore till spring. Do not start it unless you can drive it to get temps up to normal. Oh yaa, switch to storage insurance, 125 for 5 months. Jeff

Last year up here in the Great White Frozen North I stored my car away from my house so I did not see it from Nov. until May.
I over inflated the tires, used gas stabilizer, used a liquid called Wintergreen oil (strong mint smell) on cotton ***** for rodents, and disconnected the battery and LEFT it in the whole winter. I also covered the car . In the spring I just reconnected the battery and the car started on the first crank of the key. I am still using the same battery, it's an Interstate brand that came with the car when I bought it. My friend stored his 69 Cougar beside me and did the same thing and he also had no problems starting.

I was told that as long as I drive it at least 50 miles a month over the winter it will be should okay. So I haven't really "stored" it, it just gets to spend a few more days in the garage from Nov - Apr. Is that okay?
