I sold my '87 and bought a QS '02 Z with the two tone interior this week (what a leap). I spent 6 years on the C4 board and learned a lot. I hope to continue here for at least 6. I have lots of questions but will ask them one at a time.
Is there something espectially difficult about changing the oil on the Z06 (or C5 for that matter)? Someone told me it took 6 and a half quarts of Mobile 1. And in order to drain the case properly, you had to jack up the rear end??? How do you get under the front to unscrew the plug and jack up the rear at the same time ??? Please tell me this is not true.
Rear only has to be level with front. If you ramp it then you have to raise it.
Someone posted the method of jacking up one front side. remove plug and oil filter then set the car back down until drained. Repeat jacking and replace plug and install filter.
Trebor...Congrats!!! I am "new" to the C5 group as well. I owned a 93 for 6 years and made a jump to a QS 01 Z. BTW...nice color!! In 2 months, I have learned a lot about the Z and the C5's thanks to the guys here.
Changing your oil, don't worry it's only your baby. Jack your car but use a jack pad or a 3/4 inch thick piece of something so you don't tear up your body panel, drain your oil and while it's draining just lower your car. You'll get most of the oil out this way. When filling just let it settle abit and take a dipstick reading, all vehicles will vary slightly in the capacity. CONGRATS on the ride your world just got better!
Once you crawl under there you'll understand why people post those things. Seems GM thought it was okay to put the damn drain plug on the front of the oil pan so when you jack up the car in the front only or drive it up on a set of ramps you trap a portion of oil in the pan. Raising that big butt to get the car level again is the only way to get out all the oil. Having the rear higher aids in getting the most oil out of the pan.
Congrats on the ride. I went from a A4 93 to my 01 Z06....glad I did it every time I drive it.
