Seeking some advice. My check engine light is lit and not sure why. I know there are many possibilities that is contributing to it, but I really really do not want to take it to a dealership service department if there is something I can do on my own. They will find all kinds of problems to make a quick rich buck. I know I may have to, but rather exchuse all of my possibilities first.
I have no problems when I accelerate, no stalling, chocking, or delays. 6 speed. While going a steady 60 mph, I have a steady 1300 rpms. While sitting in the carport and listen to the idle, no problems there or rapid indifferent of idle speed either.
Any suggestions? No, I do not have an extended warranty either. All I see when I look down at my check engine light that is lit…..I do not see that….all I see and hear is the cash register ringing and the money leaving my hands for repairs.

Check to see if your gas cap is on tightly.
If it is, slowly remove it after you have driven a few miles and listen
if you hear a pressure release. If not, the cap is not sealing properly.
Follow the link below to the Tech Tip and write down the trouble codes that come up on the DIC in Manual Mode of the Diagnostics. Then post them in this thread.

If you followed the tech tip and got it to page through the individual modules on it's own, then you need to follow the rest of the procedure to manually page through so you can have enough time to write the individual codes down.
Once the IPC has displayed all 11 modules, the system goes into the manual mode, which allows selection of each module, using combinations of DIC buttons. The manual mode can also be entered at any time during the automatic sequence by pressing any button except "E/M". Once the IPC displays "manual diagnostics", you may select a particular module by pressing the options button to go forward or the "trip" button to go back. Once a system is selected and a DTC is displayed, if more than one are present; press "gages" To move forward or "fuel" to go back. To exit the diagnostic mode at any time, press E/M". If you want to erase or "clear" codes, press "reset". Clearing a code does not repair a problem. You are simply erasing the evidence of it in the module's memory.
Try the gas cap trick. I had the same problem earlier this year. I opened the gas cap and put it back on, making sure it clicked 5-6 times. My check engine light hasn't come on since.
When I first got mine, also got the check engine light. The gas cap would not seal properly. Had to put a little silicone on the gasket to get it to seal properly.
