Lined up my appointment a week ago. Took the car in last night before so they would have all day to do it. The fact that the dealer is 30 miles away does not make this a convenient process.
Got the call this morning.... "uh-er... sir... we don't have all the parts for the repair" The service rep said there is a harness and a plate in the kit needed for the repair, and that the package did not contain the plate.
Somebody help me here... I seem to recall reading here that the fix for the A4s was just a removal of the locking plate, not the addition of any new parts. Is the dealer blowing smoke up my a$$???
The A4 recall for my '98 consisted of a harness kit containing a relay that plugs into the wiring and a replacement plate that goes on the steering column shaft.
How long did it take the dealer to perform the switch out,,, my chevy dealer says they will need my 98 a4 for 4 hours?! Since the recall is good indefinatly ( so Im told by the dealer service dept) Im going to wait until I experience a problem. Also what is involved in terms of dash/ steering column dismantling? I ve done some custom painting on my console/'instrument panels that I really dont want to see gashed up.
I don't know the actual time as I dropped the car off and picked it up later that afternoon. On the work order it shows the tech time as .9 hours. They have to remove the steering wheel to access the lock plate and remove the lower valance under the steering column to access the wiring. I couldn't find any sign of damage to my interior after they finished, but I was concerned when I dropped the car off.

Just had mine done this week, here's a copy of the parts off the invoice sheet. I saw the dealer copy to GM, the cost was $277.00 CDN.
