Default Convertible top question

My 2003 vert is well over a year old now and I have noticed that the top in the up position is just touching the deck where the side seams of the top material are sown together and that is causing the deck too have very slight marring on it. I put a small piece of that clear material on the left and right sides of the deck for now.Does anyone have this problem and what can be done about it? LT

There's a TSB out for the problem. I believe in '04 the made the rubber weatherstrip (on the underside of the last bow) thicker so the fabric doesn't come in contact with the deck.

I have the exact same vette you do except an 04 but haven't noticed any rubbing or marring on the top as of yet. It seems to go up and down with no issues. I'll keep an eye on it though and post later if I see anything.

I know exacly what you are talking about. You need to be carefull when you are storing the top. If the top is in the vertical position and the deck lid is still closed the bars will rub the lid if you put pressure on it toward the rear.

that was supposed to be remedied in 03. i'll look closer, but i don't believe mine is doing it. if it was, i would cut a piece of my old cleartastic and apply it there.

The following links contain some good information on the problem:

Current Post in C5 Tech: ULTIMATE SOLUTION - Convertible Top Rubbing On Paint

1998-2001: Service Bulletin: Paint Wear Through at Fifth Bow (Replace Seal)

1998-2003 Convertible: Prevention of Convertible Top From Rubbing Against the Paint Behind the Plastic Strip

I would recommend you take it up with your dealer's service department, especially if your car is still under warranty. Hope this helps and good luck.
