Vinci hand held tuner cure for throwing Halltech codes
Hey Guy's, I was just on this forums C5 Tech site and found a thread regarding a " Vinci hand held tuner ", from what I read this hand held tuner should be able to re calirbrate the PCM after a Halltech stinger is installed on my 04Z, that's just one funtion of many that this tuner is supposed to do. It say's its a straight forward process that ask's you questions and you push buttons to reply and make the proper adjustments. It cost $500.00 bucks but if it can do all the other things that they claim that would be a bargin and you would have it for when ever an adjustment is required, like when I put on headers, or heads or a cam and such.
HAVE any of you guy's used this tuner with success?
i use it. i gained.2 and 1.4 mph in the 1/4 mph. the only mods i have on the car is the SLP airlid and electric cutout. here's a tutorial i made up for VHP http://www.stealthram.com/vhptuner.htm any questions, feel free to ask. or you can call them at (407)478-VETT
Vinci is not the same as Hypertech. Hypertech was the first company to create chips/programmers, but theirs pretty much suck. I went with the Predator programmer. Not only can you custom program your PCM, but it also does diagnostics. Vinci does as well. I looked at both and went with the Predator since more people use them and DiabloSport (maker of the Predator) is located in Delray Beach (right near where I live), so I may take my Z over to them and have them do a custom tune with my unit for me.
The Hypertech installs a generic performance tune that may or may not increase performance in your Vette. The Predator and Vinci allow the user to actually tune specific parameters of fuel and spark.
I don't think any of these hand helds mentioned are what you need for something like lean codes from an intake. Today at Carlisle I watched while intakes were installed by a company. They were using LS1 Edit plus a G.M. Tech 2. It seems like they had a grasp on it. No dyno being used. I don't know about tuning except what I read. Thursday and late today I talked to two other tuners who both told me doing the tune using a dyno is MUCH more precise. One of these shops has a special going on for a dyno tune for $300. If intake, hedders,or of course a cam is in your future consider a dyno tune from a good shop. Thats about that.....
