My rant...
I have been coming to corvetteforum for nearly a year, now. I consider myself to be a performance car enthusiast and have already decided that a C5 Vette will be my next car. For the most part, I have enjoyed reading the posts and educating myself on my future purchase. There is one thing, however, that has rubbed me the wrong way since day 1. That is the rampant and incorrect usage of the term "ricer".
Some of you realize that this term is reserved for econo-boxes loaded down with fart can exhausts, giant wings, and vinyl stickers, but the majority of the comments I see are brash generalizations directed toward ANY Japanese car and/or it's owner. The elitists that make these comments need to educate themselves because they sound foolish.
TRUE "rice" can be found in many places... even in the beloved domestic market:
Should you be proud of the Corvette? ABSOLUTELY!! The Corvette is a worldwide icon and a legend. The fact that you own such a coveted car with such a reputation should mean that the reputation of it's owner should be equally as meaningful. Many people say that Supra owners are quite pompous, but I've learned in my time here that several Vette owners have them beat quite badly. Those members are quite the shining beacon of the Vette community
. It's funny that I read through these forums and see many comments directed towards Supras, RX-7s, 300ZX, etc.. as being a "piece of crap", but I can find page after page of Vette owners complaining about build quality issues. In relation, these Japanese "pieces of crap" have FAR fewer quality issues and Vette owners should educate themselves before making such blanket statements. As Vette owners, I can only assume that most of you are past an age that you should have to resort to playground name calling and making comments with no merit.
Things that are rice:
Rediculous Vinyl Stickers
Fart Can Exhausts
Incorrect vehicle badging
Neon Lights
Light-up washer nozzles
Oversized and pointless wing
Absurd windshield banners
Tasteless and/or unpainted bodykits
PLEASE, don't be so close-minded to stereotype all import drivers. Just because my car was built outside of US soil does not make it rice... it's what the owner does to the car that puts it in that category.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the Vette and that's why I'm here. I APPRECIATE the car for what it is because I'm a CAR ENTHUSIAST and see the Corvette as one of the best, despite the small problems that seem to plague it. Here's hoping that most of you are like me... car enthusiasts. From here forward, let's PLEASE reserve the "ricer" comments for those who truly deserve them:

I've been here for 4 years and I see tremendous respect for all cars that are fast. I'm not sure where you are seeing disparaging remarks against supras etc. You will get no argument on your definition of 'rice' (stickers, huge wings etc.).
Heck if the kill stories forum was still open you'd see my old post about getting beaten by a miata and my nod to that guy...
Sure, there will always be exceptions, and there will always be some that think their vette is the fastest coolest car on the road. But trust me, it works both ways - vette guys get stereotyped just as fast.
In general the vast majority of people on this board respect all cars (except maybe the mustang
j/k). We get a good kick out of huge wings, stickers, unmatched body panels etc. in good fun, and yes there is naturally some smack-talk but the folks here are good folks.

Exactly my list of "rice" as well. I even have the wife trained in spotting them now!
Very well put post, which shouldn't make ANY enemies...

. I just finally HAD to say something after reading some of the posts in the RX-7 thread. I see so many people on these forums post "matter-of-fact" type information that is far from the truth when it comes to imports. It's one thing to NOT know certain things about another car, it's entirely different to make outlandish claims if you don't know what you're talking about.
The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts

Well, I am

Honestly, I hadn't read the RX7 thread - just did - now I really am not sure why your rant (not that you're not allowed
). It seems that the majority of posts give props to the RX7.I actually agree that the RX8 is an ugly beast but the RX7 is cool. I was at one time looking for a track car and really wanted a 7, but got a lot of input on very high maintenance requirements and took a pass.
Cheers!
It's a free country - and everyone can have their own definition of "ricer".
Relax; and enjoy our freedoms here in the USA.

. Oh yeah, and I love the 350Z, but it's usually the driver of them that puts the RICE label on them.

What is so funny about the last picture is that they are probably talking to each other on their cell phones.
I have a lot of respect for the Supras, RX's, Z's, etc. They can be made to go very fast and look very good. Its the people who go overboard that get to me. Same goes for domestic cars.

Mike, obviously I inserted a HUGE amount of sarcasm here, but I hope you see how foolish it sounds. Obviously, Corvettes are not "hoopties" even though many "hoopties" are Chevys. You obviously do not want your car to be equated to a '92 Caprice Classic with 22" spinners on it any more that I want my car to be associated with an Eclipse that has a giant wing and vinyl stickers. I do not wear a sideways visor and am almost certain that you do not wear a stained wife beater and have gold teeth.
