Default Dimly lit tachmeter?

hi.

i believe the RPM meter is called the tach? (sorry... not sure.) anyway... on my z06, the tach is a bit darker than the speedometer at night, no matter how i turn the dimmer. this is especially pronounced at the top, where it really seems a bulb burnt out or something. but the dealer insists this is normal. what do you guys think?--you have the same problem?

also, the checker pattern on the speedometer is much more pronounced than on the tach during the day--doesn't matter how the sun shines on it, it's the same look.

anyway, i'm not sure if it's defective or not--seems bright enough to go either way.

thanks for your help,
dean

It is normal. The guages are lit by 2 small black light bulbs. One is located at each end of the gauge cluster and with the 3D layout of the gauges, the innermost gauges don't get lit as well.

Mines the same way. Tach is dimmer at higher numbers, speedo is dimmer at lower numbers. I started a similiar topic a couple weeks ago and got several responses basically saying that's the way it is.

Like it was said earlier the instrument cluster is lit from the front by 2 black lights. It is projected onto the cluster instead of lit from the back.
