I requested and got excellent feedback on replacing my ambient temperature sensor about a week ago. When I removed the old sensor, the pins and connector were so corroded that the pins actually broke off of the sensor and remained inside the connector. I attempted to salvage the connector because the parts shop at my local dealer told me they didn't sell the connectors. He indicated I would have to buy the whole wire harness. The sensor was only $14 so I couldn't see spending hundreds on a wire harness. After doing my best with the connector, I hooked it all back up and it still didn't work. I've been looking in ernest for a connector. I finally called another Chev dealer on a whim and he told me they do sell the pigtails with the connector.... I picked it up, removed the old connector, soldered the new one in place and my problems are solved. The pigtail cost about $24 bucks. It appears that this is a common problem, so I hope this helps.
The sensor is located on the passenger side. If you jack your car up, look inside the radiator cavity and you'll see it protruding. It's about the diameter of a pencil and protrudes about 1 to 1 1/2 inches into the cavity. To get to it, you have to remove a couple of the plastic pieces like you would if you were replacing a fog lamp or turn signal lamp. Make sure you tell the parts shop that you need the ambient temperature sensor and not the block temperature sensor.
